Unresponsive Analog Stick Help Please

For about a year, my analog stick is inputting "Up" even in the neutral position, in other words when I leave my psp on any menu screen or game, the character moves up/the menu arrow scrolls up. My PSP is way out of warranty (I bought it when it first came out).

Is there a way I can fix it myself? Any help is greatly appreciated.

take off the faceplate and tighten the two screws that hold the analogue

do what he said and when you reassemble the psp make sure you get the screws that hold the faceplate on tight

Hey thanks for the speedy responses.

I tried to find a tutorial for disassembling but I haven't found one yet. I'll keep searching but it would be nice if someone could link me to one.

I tried tightening the screws but to no avail. I noticed that while the faceplate was off, my cursor still moved down without input. I believe there is a software malfunction. How do I fix this?

just buy a new little rubber thingy or hard wire it to the mobo

It always does that...

Its not software i would think.

Do you happen to have another analog to try?

And maybe try hard wiring  it

Hmm I have a white PSP too that works perfectly. I'll try removing the faceplate on that one and see if the cursor still moves straight down.

it will move down,

that is how the analog works

when the analog is in the down/right ish position the potentiometer (the special resistor that feeds back to a chip, certain resistances = certain direction) is returning a resistance of 0. this resistance is also achieved by removing the nub. that's why it moves when you remove it.

as for it moving, clean all contacts, if no avail hardwire it.

I've used 2 different sticks too and they both don't work, it looks like i'm going to have to hard wire it, shoud I use 30 krynar on it? or how else should I hardwire it?

connect the spots on the stick (which is 4 I think) to the wires on the mother board directly with out that clear plastic block thingy. lol
