a question about note button as power switch
« on: January 14, 2009, 06:44:08 AM »
when using this mod: https://www.acidmods.com/forum/index.php?topic=13449.0

is it neccassary to cut the trace on the note button?
do you have to hold the note button the way you would hold the power switch to fully shutdown?

the reason i ask is because my idea is to leave the trace intact so that the note still functions when tapped, but that would only work if you had to hold it like you do the power switch.

so to recap i would like to know how the note button performs as the power switch (hold or tap, and does it just power off or does it stand by as well) and if the note is held to power off could the trace be left intact and function as both note and power (tap for note, hold for power)

You have to cut the trace. I you left it in tact, you would create a short circuit. And the note button will function just as the power swith. Tap to go into standby and hold to turn it off. You could probably use a pic of some kind to do what you said.

thanks for the quick reply im just poking around trying to find a no money way around the power switch, but it is good to hear that the note mod has both standby and shutdown.

im just not sure if i wanna give up the note switch or not (not cause of mute but cause of homebrew, plugins etc.)

If you have any extra tact switches around you can use that too. Just drill a hole in the case that it will fit through. Then wire it to the top leg of the switch and the one below it. That way you don't have to give up the note button.

you can kill the screen button...i rarely use mine and i dont think theres any homebrew out there that use the screen button as a function key. pretty much the same routine as the note just a different trace. and sides it looks more like a power button then the note button
It's been a long time

You have to cut the note button trace. Right? I know you don't have to cut the trace on the power switch.

jumbo could you be so kind to post how the note button behaves? (ie. slight tap = mute, long tap = stand by, held tap = power off or does a slight tap replace stand by with mute, in other words does your note button have 2 functions - mute/power off or does it have 3 functions - mute/stand by/ power off and of course how do they function)

im just curious what its gonna be like before i doit.

and fyi screen button is used by homebrew/plugins for screen shot often, not to mention brightness factor and shut off screen (when held)

Honestly I think select is a good one for this. Not many games even use that button.

That would work.... Accept that select is used for homebrews and for switching the keyboards when typing.

The wifi switch won't work. The psp power switch works like a momentary switch so you need another momentary switch to make it work correctly.

The process should be the same for the slim but I'm not sure. You should ask one of the slim modders. They will know if it'll work or not.
