I HAVE MADE AN ERROR. THIS IS NOT FOR PSP

Like whoa: two terrabytes of data storage?! What the hell are you gonna do with all that? Read 'em and weep 'em buckoes. Sony and SanDisk have announced their joint development project which will expand memory stick formats to proportions yet unheard of.

The first one is a new line for the Memory Stick PRO, tentatively dubbed as the "Expanded format for Memory Stick PRO". This new line includes expanded formats for the entire Memory Stick PRO series, namely PRO, PRO HG, and Micro (M2).

Compared to the current gen of PRO memsticks that can go up to 32GB, this new format will be able to achieve up to 2TB of data storage (damn, that's even higher than what I got on my old, clunky PowerBook!).

Other than the increased storage capacity, everything will pretty much remain the same: same dimensions, same number of pins, same transfer speeds. The new line will also still be supporting MagicGate and Access Control Function.

Now on top of the expanded Memory Stick PRO line, Sony and SanDisk are also set to deliver an entirely new format, one called the Memory Stick HG Micro. It's based on the current M2 format, but will be improved to allow transfer speeds of up to 60MB/s.

The press release didn't include any release dates for the new formats, however, development for these memsticks are already set to start this year

jokes lol it would snap if I sat down. There's only one disadvantage and thats for Sony....torrenting of games is going to go through the roof...But, nice find man.

um this wont work on the PSP. The PSP uses memory stick pro DUO this is a memory stick pro.

I got a feeling that Sony might find some way to stop us from using these cards on custom firmware to play ISO's.

Not too mention unless it's revolutionary, it ain't gonna be cheap.

Very true, but then people use to say 'what are you gonna do with 32gb on a psp', now there quite a alot of people who have the photofast CR-3100 and the 5400. 2TB's is a hell of alot of space and you would never fill that amount with 'useful' stuff, but imagin the amount of films, music, homebrew and iso's (which are legit) you could fit on there. i know i could fill 2 TB very easily. I already have a similer amount on my pc and that has 2.5TB with around 16 gb left as free space.

I think you guys are missing the fact that this IS NOT a Pro Duo. It's a Pro and a new format they're making.
IE NOT A PRO DUO. WON'T FIT IN A PSP.

Besides, OFW can't handle 2tb. Why would sony make something their product can't handle?

I think sony's going to go bankrupt because who's gonna pay the tons of money its gonna cost any way!

Also i only have a 80gb Harddrive in my PC and i have like .001 gb left on it xD'

lol i wasa bout to say that XD

if this were to somehow, come out, think how much it would cost. if a 1 TB HDD costs 350-400, imagine a memstick. remember when 1 GB PSP memcards came out? there were 80 somthing dollars. you would have to refinance your house, car, and possibly boat to buy this.

Now you're just crazy.
A 1tb sata II 7.2k rpm desktop hdd costs around $100-200 depending on other specs.

well i havent looked at the prices of 1 tb HDDs recently lol. the price im quoting is probably a yr ago. but still. a 200 dolllar hdd, imangine a 600 dollar memory stick

Ok. I will edit my main post with detaiils of why. But if they was to make it available for the PSP, it would be able to handle it. You are forgeting that Dark_AleX made up to 2TB available in 3.90 M33. So I'm sure Sony can do the same. And I'll have a look now for a MemoryStick PRO to MemoryStick PRO Duo.

Yes but OFW still has a cap and they're not designing the card for the a CFW, oh lawd that'll be the day. I don't think this really matters though because they could easily remove the software cap them selves in a future update.

well it also that they are making it for the m2 cards as well and i beleive that there is an adapter for the m2 to pro duo. but where the problem really lies is that the PSP can only handle a 8 gig in fm under 5.00 and 16 gig over 5.00 (at least is what i have heard.).

the truth is though that the most you could possibly need is 8 or 16 gigs. the only reason you could use more is if your treating it as an ipod (which it kind of sucks as) or you are trying to fit every single homebrew and official iso ever made.

i personally have an 8 gig microsd with an adapter and i have ... (nes, gameboy, gameboy color and sega) all games ever made as well.

surrly you could mod a pro into a psp as you can put a pro duo in a pro slot with an adapter so maybe you could do it the other way and either have it so that it sticks out or make it internal

*figners crossed*,although in reality it is highly unlikely,as the drm chip would most likely be hardwired and/or programmed into the eeprom itself,and no average human has access to the facilities to program that kind of eepwnage
