Just found a problem
« on: March 26, 2009, 04:22:21 PM »
Ok, so i upgraded the speaker in my nightshade slim for a louder one. works really well, but i just found a problem with it. in the umd bay i have a  photoshop cr-3100. after using the console for a week or so i found that my data was corrupting (lost my resistance save and wipeout packs). I Think it's due to how close the adapter is to the speaker. i didn't think magnetic fields affect flash memory. Is this correct?

I googled it and Jumbo, most people said that magnets do not effect flash memory, only the older floppy media.

Nah, small magnets will not affect the SD flash cards at all.

"A magnet powerful enough to disturb the electrons in flash would be powerful enough to suck the iron out of your blood cells."

Lol even "Super Magnets" called neodymium magnets aren't powerful enough to suck iron from blood cells lol. And those are the most powerful magnets known to man

I think google or the websites that have this info need updating. something is definatly wrong with the memory cards or the adapter. i formated the cards via the psp, uploaded all my stuff (took 2 hours, oh the joy) and 30 min's later a film, two games and a few tracks of music became corrupted. it's not a problem i've had before and it only happened when i installed the new speaker. So rather than lose the speaker and let the memoery cards get worse, i've taken the cr-3100 out and added a cr-5400. it's only 16gb at the mo, but it shouldn't be affected as it's no where near the speaker. So for all that want to have a speaker and a 32gb mod in there psp umd bay. DON'T USE a cr-3100. use a cr-5400.

Yeah the micro-sd to pro duo adapter is SO MUCH better then the old photofast mods, cause you can keep your PSP UMD drive and have 32-gb.

It's not a bad mod. if your just going to add the cr-3100 by itself then go for it. it's cheaper to get sd cards for it but just don't have a speaker next to the thing. i'd still recommend it as a great mod to make tho. I'm gonna check it out on a phat and see if the damage is temporary, if so, then i'll fit it in another psp.

The micro-sd one would be really cool... could you add like 4 of them cause they are so small?

Thats an idea but the format would have got rid of it. can't be that.

Na, you would only be able to hook up one. it's like the idea of having two ms pro duo solts, you can't have them running at the same time because the psp is set up to read just one memoery card. thats why i like the photofast line. you have two sd slots but the adapters are programmed so the psp will read it a one card.

Not sure if this is accurate but I was thinking that if you have the adapter too close to the speaker that the magnetic pull could be affecting the coding on one of the onboard chips.  By that I mean the ones that do the conversion from pro duo to sd.  It is a frequency change afterall.

I wonder if you could hook up like 4 though and have a switch to switch between each one.

Maybe a knob... Idk if it would need lots of pins... wouldn't it just still show up as not connected if you broke just 1 of the lines?
