PSP UMD making noise.
« on: May 06, 2009, 12:46:09 AM »
I just installed a clear casing on my phat psp and now all of a sudden I have been getting some noise form the umd as it begins to rev up. I ran the same game without the door and it was fine. Just curious has this happen to anyone else, and is there a quick fix. Thanks

The UMD door can be very tricky to get on and off just be patient. It's when you try and rush it to get it done or you get mad that its not working when things go wrong. Like rock said, just try taking it off and replacing it again.

the door seems to be in place correctly. I guess i can try removing it again and try working with it a bit. when i got the case, the door was a little off at the bottom but not seriously. But the door isnt rattling...sounds more like the disc is as the game is going to load, but it doesnt load.

make sure your UMD drive gears arn't hitting the little piece of plastic of the case that sits behind them if they are you can cut some of that plastic out thats what it sounds like it may be it i had a psp do that once and its because the UMD wasn't spining fast enough cause the gears were rubbing up against it hope that helps you out

well I'm following what your saying, and seems to me this could be the problem. But I'm not getting what part of plastic it will be touching. are you talking about the main gear spinning the game? If you can can you post a picture pointing to what you tihkn it might be. That would be greatly appreciated.

Im not sure what plastic piece though and when you say gear do you mean the drive that's spinning the umd. That's my confusion.

Before i go ahead and do this, Should i cut that whole chunk out or should I remove only that little indent thats facing upward. I just dont want to mess this up. Sorry for all the questions.

Mmmm I don't see what cutting that part has to do with anything, the UMD drive should already fit snugly lol. Also thats behind the drive theres no moving parts there so I don't think cutting that will have any effect.

It would really be a big help if you could just take a even 5 second video of it sounds like so I (us) could help you more.

Lol krazy thats a pretty dusty PSP and drive.

I will try and take a video tomorrow. But basically is sounds like the umd isnt getting to spin as fast as it needs since it wont load and I'm guessing thats why it is making that noise. But I will try and get a video up.

it sounds like those gears are rubbing to me just cut a small chunk off right behind the gears some cases they rub against this and this should fix it cause those are what helps to spin the UMD when in the drive hope it helps
