I"m thinking of doing this (maybe) if I ever get a job and money ;~;
Picture it... and completely dvd-less, hdd based, Wii console.
HOW?
Simple! Strip the dvd drive! Unhook the dvd drive, and solder the ribbon cables to connectors that are added to the back of the case. Make a simple external enclosure for the dvd drive with the same connectors so that all you have to do is hook up the drive via the connectors in the back.
Hell, if you wanted to, you could go all out and mod the front of the case so you could remove the harddrive too!
How would you play new games without illegally downloading them, you ask? Simple, again!
Simply plug in the dvd drive, pop in the new game, and dump the game onto the usb harddrive. (Or use an alternate server dump but that takes ages.)
Then, just run the games off of the harddrive!
Benefits?
No more annoying loading times when putting a disk in and starting it.
Faster loading times period.
More space.
No need to swap disks to play a different game.
It's even legal, too, since you can still hook up the drive!
Thoughts, comments, bashes, rants? Post 'em here. I want to hear all of them.
EDIT: WAIT. DOES WII BOOT WITHOUT A DVD DRIVE ATTACHED??
