Plastic Dye?
« on: May 19, 2009, 11:49:40 PM »
I heard plastic dye was a good way of painting/dying your controller?

Has anyone tried it?

What type of dye should I use?

And How?

Thanks

IDK , I used marking paint. it adheared well and seems to be fairly durable. I used a painters scuff pad to take the shine off the controller, and then cleaned it with a degreaser (alcohol works) and then painted it, I an very pleased with it, I will put up a pic when I get it all put back together.

what you are looking for is called Vynil Dye.  It actually dye's the plastic where as paint just covers it.  I have heard mixed things about it, but it obviously has pretty specific applications as it would be hard to dye a black controller white :yess:

some light reading:

Also my friends over to xbox-scene forums have done quite a bit of leg work for you in the hardware/case modding section of the forums.

There is definately some technique involved, I think Rit Dye was the most popular.

here is some phenomenal results from Rykin over at the scene:

Wow that's sweet... How did he manage to get the words "wii" and "power" to stay? Isn't it hard to cut a piece of masking tape that precise?
