XBox 360 Modding Questions
« on: October 17, 2009, 10:52:10 AM »
I'm brand new to the whole 360 modding scene, and I'm just trying to figure out a few things before I start. But first, let me tell you what I've got.

I bought a broken 360 with 3 red rings (Error 0102). It has a Hitachi-LG DVD drive.

I want to fix the Xbox so that it will run, flash the DVD drive with CFW so I can play backups, and I want to mod my controller with rapid fire.

Now, I know I need both a Torx T8 and T10, but I'm not really sure what else I need.

I know how to do the rapid fire mod, but I need tutorials on fixing an Xbox with a 0102 error and for flashing a Hitachi-LG DVD drive.

Also, I've been hearing about people being banned for mods, will any of the ones I am planing on doing get me banned? Thanks for any and all help.

I have almost disassembled the xbox, but I stripped the last black screw on the chasis. Any tips on getting it out?

the black screws in the center? they are conected to the xclamps which you will be discarding anyway, use drill bit larger then the shaft of the screw but smaller then the head and drill it, the head will pop off allowing the shaft to pass through the chasis, or use a larger bit and just becarefull not to drill all the way through the chasis, drill untill the head is gone

One more thing, can I use thermal pads insted of thermal paste? And would it be better?

there should be thermal pads on the underside of the board already...but for the heat sinc/chips, you must use thermal paste, and buy the good stuff 99.9% silver!! this is important

Ok, thanks. I just ordered some as it was cheaper than going to the store. So for now, it's on hold until I get it. Also, is there any specific technique for getting the x-clamps off because no matter how hard I try, I can't get them off. I'm afried I'm going to break something...

Removing the X clamps can be tricky until you get the technique down...Get a small flat head screw driver that will fit in the lil gaps that's around the x clamp stud. Place the driver and and push the handle down and give it a twist..You should notice it starting to bend and the opposite side will just pop off...Then go to another side and do the same and the x clamps will just pop right off then. Just be careful not to scratch into the board and damage any traces or resistors on the back.

I have a youtube guide showing all of this if interested, PM me.

LOL for that matter, you could cut them off, as long as you dont damage the board, like I said once they come off, we will throw them away

I've successfully fixed my Xbox with no problems. The only thing different is that the fans on this one are louder than the xbox I already had (Which is newer). Will this effect the system in any way? Also, I would like to flash my drive with CFW. What materials do I need and what files do I need? I think I have a Hitachi-LG 78D DVD drive.

Any help?

I'm sorry. I just cracked open my xbox again and found out that my drive is a Hitachi 47D. Can someone give a tutorial on how to flash it with the latest CFW? Also, what cables do I need to connect it to my computer? Also, can I get banned from XBL for playing backups?
