Need help learning...
« on: December 27, 2009, 12:38:17 AM »
...how to write my own .asm/.hex files.  :dntknw:
Can somebody teach me? I don't know if I should start to learn C++ or Assembly. I really want to learn so I can start writing my own codes and don't have to depend on the $20 RapidFire kit off eBay.

HELP PLEASE... :beg:

Well the advantages of C++ vs Assembly is the ease of starting.
for the lazy people language C++ / C since they love to take short cuts
if you want to learn something that give you lot more controlle than do ASM
So I think it's much more easy to start with C++ becouse all you need is a computer and a keyboard (and some brain). For assembly you have to get the code out of the box. You'll need a PIC (programmable integrated circuit) and electronical skills.

I've also been interested as to how the code in a PIC works, I'd love to see a full tutorial about which model PIC chips should be used and what each leg on the PIC is, what programmer to use, what program to use, what language to use, some basic code examples that work, etc.

mike, I hate to break this to you....but you uh...live in Texas

Off topic:
Living in Texas doesn't make you lazy and stupid, I live in Texas and so does CP... Since we're stereotyping, should we assume that since you live in Florida that you're old, Jewish, and can't drive? I didn't think so (I'm not trying to start a flame war or insult anyone, simply make a point)... It's not about where you live it's about what you do, or do not do, with the education you're given. Most Americans simply choose to be lazy and don't want to learn technical things because the media and their social groups paint it as 'uncool' to be smart and knowledgeable... (it's hard to sell crappy products to smart and knowledgeable individuals, it's also harder to convince them that their government is screwing them...)

On Topic:

I'm with Tenac, I would also like to see some tuts or something on PICs, the info here is very limited (I know that there are plenty of resources on PICs out there, but there are very few in lay terms), and is one of the reasons I have resisted adopting PICs and modding with them...

That would be awsome if we could get a tut in the works.

I have been looking on the internet and found nothing of real solid info. I don't want to have to spend $30 for a book off amazon.

Also...
When I do start to learn what would be the advantages of Assembly vs. C++?

ok, well your topic is about having someone teach you to write your own codes or learn how to do so, and that's what we're discussing right now, getting tutorials for PIC programming and coding...

As far as who can teach you, I know I can't. As for someone else here, I can't speak for anyone but myself...

As for which language to use, I believe that's been answered

If you are going to go with assembly language, I found this great site a while ago that I used to get a handle on it.  Already know Cpp so I thought it might be fun to experiment with assembly.

Thanks for the link!
But it is a cost of $79.99 - kinda expensive. I would rather just go and get a book that is dedicated to Assembly or BASIC.
I will look into it though.

Can somebody that knows Assembly make a video explaining it and how to write a fully functional Rapidfire code? I am willing to pay for something like this. I learn better through example rather than reading off the internet.
