Hitachi drive
« on: January 07, 2010, 08:28:04 PM »
OK so I have no idea how I did this, but I did...

my current 360 project had some drive problems when I got it. the idiot I got it from wanted the silver tray front so he tried to just pry it off and in doing so broke it, the eject button and the tray... so I bought a new tray and tray front and eject button.

tonight I opened the drive, and in the process of removing the tray somehow I disconnected the ribbon cable from the laser (again idk how the hell it happened but it did). so I inspected the cable before reattaching it and one of the traces is severed (pic to follow)... any ideas?

should I just buy a new drive and swap the board out (so as to not need to flash it, I hate flashing stuff), or buy a broken one for parts? all I really need is a new ribbon cable but I can't seem to find them for sale anywhere...

I don't have a different drive to use...

tried to pop a little piece of solder on to reconnect the trace... yeah, that didn't work, now the cable is just straight screwed...

guess I'll just buy a new Hitachi drive and swap the boards... will be good for when I finally do my slot loader, I'll have spare parts at least...

I have never once had an issue with that hitachi drive and until now it's been used on a near daily basis for multi-hour gaming sessions ans never once scratched a disc. sure it's a bit loud, but I don't even hear it the second I put my headphones on.
