strange behavior
« on: May 15, 2010, 10:56:11 AM »
ok so I got this dirt cheap xbox like $7.00 cheap.

it is one of the strangest things I have seen. it turns itself on, turn it off and it comes back on.

on top of that it opens and closes the dvd drive on its own, repeatedly, randomly, sometimes it opens half way, sometimese it opens all the way.

You sure you checked there is no one :censored:ign around with a remote control?

Maybe it has some waterdamage and its shorting and its making it to those strange things. I've seen it before with cars.

i'm gonna say its either a short or a malfunctioning/damaged/jammed button. i used to have one of the original ipod nanos, and accidentally dropped it once. from then on it would randomly go back through the menus as if i was hitting the menu button.

Motherboard problem. Or at least that's what I think. There could be a short on the board, or I daresay in one or more of the chips.

The motherboard should have control over both the power and CD drive... This could also be cause by an IR sensor or Wireless sensor sending false signals... Just Disconnect and reconnect stuff until you find the source.

Possibly an overheated FET Transistor.

Highlighted in red are the FETs. Also if the xbox has been exposed to static electricity that can damage parts that control the console's power supply regulator circuit.

Else I would think you have a leaky capacitor.

hmmm dunno... bout the powering on n off.. but i had a console that would spit ou the disc drive n close it as it pleased......... it annoyed me one day after a few hours on some campaign without saving... disc draw opens... n i lose all my progress.... the xbox soon came into more issues, as my foot had a large disagrement with it..... it was in the bin after thats so never actually worked out what was wrong with it....

Sigs made by Ken and blazin from the AM Art team cheers guys.....

Did some research and found that this chip controls the console's FETs which controls power to the whole motherboard.

oh and next weekend i will be back to my shop for a week :-]
