Nes PC !!DONE!!
« on: March 03, 2010, 11:04:43 AM »
So hello everyone

i've been gone for a while in the meanwhile i got kicked out R&D because i was inactive, even after i talked about my activity and that i was going to work about it
but i forgot to mention my vacation and working out the house etc..

so i'm back and still living ;)

and i decided to show you guys some stuff i've been working on, and stuff i'm going to work on

a current project that i'm working on is a Nes PC.
A pc in a Nes case (for those who don't know what a Nes is,.. shame on you  :fear: ) if you still don't know, google is your friend ;)

i bought a Mini ITX motherboard a long time ago, a VIA Epia 5000 (i think) not sure about the 5000. It's currently at my working place so i cant see it xD
and so i bought a nes case too, and a slim dvd drive ;)

the first thing what i had to do is strip the Nes case :)

You notice that i left the higher T part in the case, i removed this later
and replaced it with plexie glass

here are the drawings on it what i cutted

can't find the pics after cutting and glueing the plexie glass

this is the whole case without power reset and power led

anyway here you see the case with the back cut ;) for the I/O shield and the motherboard inside the case

in the meanwhile i recieved my PSU (60W was enough) so i hooked it up (quickly xD) to see if it worked
and to install Windows XP on it (don't know if i'm staying on that os)

i replaced the power led with a RGB one ;) so it gets different colors everytime

Next up
Find a place for HDD activity led (going to place it in the top of the case, behind the heat exhaust)
Create a smooth case and glue/paint the downside correctly
find a way to stick the DVD drive and the HDD somewhere (probably in the top of the case)
remove the IDE connectors on the motherboard and solder a IDE cable on it because it won't fit (the Power/reset pcb is in the way)
find everything else that needs to be done

I will soon make another topic with another project that i'm going to work on ;)
but first i will have to recieve the parts for it ;)
well it's mainly one big part. More info soon ;)

To all of you crying about lag and kicks, remember… when Jesus died, took him 3 days to respawn. Now THAT is lag.

there are more to come, but you will have to do it with this for now :P
i painted the case with a lighter gray then it was before ;) i like this color grey more then it was before, and it needed a paintjob

i solderd the IDE Flatbed cable to the motherboard ;) and it works now, going to try and install tinycore linux or xbmc onto it ;)

Interesting. I've never seen anyone solder the PATA cables to the socket before. Any particular reason you did that instead of just plugging it in?

Did you replace the controller sockets with USB / Firewire ports? I can't tell from the pictures.

That would be beautiful with XBMC and maybe an infrared port upfront (Maybe in place of one of the controller ports?) For a remote control to control xbmc...Great idea though good work  :hifive:

Hopefully instinct wont take over and you wont start blowing into the dvd drive to make it work
