PSP 3000 inside a 2000? Can this be done?
« on: December 22, 2010, 04:34:04 PM »
Hey everyone- I bought a Crisis Core limited edition housing set and wondered if it is possible to put a 3000's guts inside a 2000's shell. I'm pretty handy with a dremel and electronics in general. I love the screen of the 3000 and that's the primary reason for my "modding". Any and all input would be greatly appreciated!!!

It CAN be done. Is it recommended? No. You will have to sand some stuff, and glue or epoxy to balance other things

Thank you kindly!!! What I'm going to do is first do it the right way, by putting what's meant to be in there, actually in it. After that and I'm extra confident in my abilities I'll go for the 3000 in a 2000. As far as building parts up for mounting purposes I'll probably use severed pieces from a 3000 shell and my good friend JB Weld. But that's just my approach in thought only at this point. I'm sure once I have the whole project in front of me that'll change in some ways or so. Well thanks again. I just needed the affirmation from someone with a tad/hell of a lot more experience than me in this field. Kudos!!!

oh BTW SilverAlaska~ JB Weld is some pretty good stuff but it conducts electricity, i just wanted to give you a heads up before you start your project to save you a future pain in the butt. (i destroyed an xbox360 controller with JB weld because it shorted out some terminals lol)

I wondered that myself given that it has steel compound in it and assumed so myself anyways- BUT thanks for the heads up. There are a few other epoxys I'm also considering- the stuff that comes in dual ejection tubes and smells like absolute dead puppies. The stuff heats up and dries quick but one of my concerns with those type would be whether or not the glue substance itself would eat through or bubble the PSP casing itself. I just bought a couple busted PSP's to do some frankenstein work on. As I work on this I'll post updates and such but understand this will be a long process. I'm in the middle of moving and school and jobs and BLAH!!! But extra time and mney will be invested into this project most definitely!

this will work because ive done it before. The only thing you need to do to the case is cut a slot to open up the headphone hole thats already there. So in other words. Look at the 3000 case and look at the 2000 case and see the diffrence at that area and youll get what i mean. And as for putting a 2000 in a 3000 case you dont have to do anything to the case. Its just if you want to put a 3000 in a 2000 case.
