How do you replace a broken xbox360 drive with a new one?
« on: September 09, 2010, 12:09:31 AM »
Hi I have a phillips Ben Q drive and was wondering if any one could tell me roughly how hard is it to replace one and what are the steps?  My old wont will not read disc and makes a funny noise every time. I tryed to fix the laser and it still wont work.  I found one for a good price and was thinking of buying a new one but do i need too flash it with original firmware or can i just plug and play?

two ways to do this:

1: access the drive key on the old drive, and flash that key to the new drive
2; buy the same type of drive and swap the main mobo (no flashing)

whats the main mobo matt?

Hi there,

The main mobo is the circuitboard inside the drive.

This contains all the firmware about the drive.

If you switch this across, the Xbox still thinks the original drive is in so no need to flash.

benq drive there are 9 wire you have to remove from old board and resoder or you won't be able too eject or reopen the disk tary if you don't reconnect them

you can't just swap it like samsung and hitachi
