New gaming PC
« on: November 20, 2010, 08:45:57 PM »
This semester, I wanted to make a new computer using a pelican case or an aluminum case with a monitor inside it too. I need some suggestion on motherboard, a graphics card and a cpu.  I was hoping to make a pc that is capable of playing Call of Duty Black Ops. What are your guys inputs?

Around 400$ or so and you dont really need to worry about a case. I plan to put it into a pelican case or something a long those lines.

no offense but are you aware how much a pelican case costs? your going to need more than $400 for one the size your talking about. you may want to rethink your case idea. or get more money

I know how much they are. I have found a decent motherboard for $54, a quad core processor for $120, $90 graphics card. Those together add up to $254. RAM isn't terribly expensive and the case is a hundred bucks or so more. I dont mind going a little over.

do it to it! just double and triple check that your parts are compatible. you might think about getting a bare bones set up from newegg or tiger direct. you can pick up a motherboard cpu combo for some decent prices. there are sites that also sell motherboard trays or you can all ways cut up a donor case and use its mobo tray. keep us informed ive allways wanted a pelican case but not to build a computer in it just to safely transport my computer and lcd to lan parties

probably not lit would be ok. I was thinking, is there away to extend all the port on the back of the motherboard? like would I have to make a cable for each one of the ports or is there something I could buy pre-made that could do the job for me??

If AMD processor, I'm guessing it would be a phenom or athlon, keep the fan, it's actually quite good. Any how are you putting the monitor in? Are you going to remove the LCD and make a permanent internal connection to the GPU?

well you may be able to find extension cables like male to female cables. (the regular are male to male as ports are female) but making them is going to be more trouble than its worth.

i dont see u needing hard drive cooling fans if there are intake fans which blow through the hard drive and then into the system.(this design is on ALMOST every single case ever created) I wouldn't spend a dime on *hard drive cooling fans* Friend bought three for 3 different hard drives and all three fans(6 80mm fans) are all busted. Dont do it.

I have found a decent motherboard for $54
No you didn't. The 2 main parts you do not want to skimp out on are a PSU and mobo. Find a better one that isn't dirt cheap, because it's not gonna suck. Also post the parts that you found so we can critique them. If this is your first build, you're going to have a lot of problems and no one wants to buy parts just to find out they're incompatible.

Is cooler master psu a worth to buy?
Corsair TX series, they're highly rated. I have 2, 1 powers my desktop and 1 powers my server.
