fading/alternating LEDs

so im working on a PS3 and i have all of my power points figured out but i am having trouble googling a circuit for lights that alternate with a fading transition. i don't have the equipment for programming chips so i will not be programming this to make it work. does anyone know how i can make it do this?

i am using seven 4-pin LEDs, 20mA/ 3.5-4v (FW) i would prefer to make them as bright as possible in the peak of each phase.

well there is this whole world of electronics out there that doesnt use microcontrollers... its called analog electronics.

there is a good start for you, a capacitor and transistor can be used for fading LEDs.  There was also someone in the 360 section that made a 360 with fading LEDs using a similar circuit, but alas i cannot find it atm
