Author Topic: PSP doesn't want to turn on, not bricked (Read 8435 times)

OK so my PSP 1001 is not wanting to turn on, ever since I replaced the stock case with an aftermarket one. The case fits perfectly, but as soon as I try to turn it on, the green light flashes for less than half of a second. I've spent hours on Google trying to find answers, so far I've seen it must be a hardware error, but I am not sure what it is, because after spending two hours with a multimeter I still cant figure out which component, if any, is bad. Anyone have this problem and fix it? Any suggestions? (P.S. I know its not a brick, I made a Pandora battery and the light just keep blinking at the same speed only like twice a second.

I have a psp that does the same exact thing, i never figured out how to fix, exept for replaceing the mobo.

Nope, even with just the mobo and power pcb it does the same thing

well it could be at some point when you were putting it back together something conductive got in there and when you turned it on it shorted out the board. ive done it before.

The Mobo or the Power board? I'd hate to have to get a new mobo

well chances are that the mobo might be fried but it also may be the power board as well. but i cant say for sure

This happened to me once and I just ran the mobo out of the case and cleaned the case and It worked fine after that

Look around and make sure nothing isint touching i had the groung from the bottom of the mobo touching with the power of the speaker and it dose that same thing i just took off the soilder from the conections and it powers on great

Forgive me for being noobish, but where is the ground of the mobo? I've tried almost anything without soldering or anything of the sort, out of the case, out of the case without the WiFi/ms slot, etc. Also would it help to mention that attempting to turn it on with the charger and without the battery the green light won't flash at all? And the battery still charges. I just don't want to get a new mobo.

Maybe if I give you a history of the PSP,
Got it, replaced the LCD (I bought broken off eBay)---WORKS
Bought a cheap case off eBay (didn't know it was cheap 'till I put it on)---CASE DIDN'T FIT, YET WORKS
Here is where I start to get functionality problems;
Tweaked and tweaked with the case trying to fix it, and after a few days---PARTIALLY WORKS, YET ANY BUMPS CAUSE A POWER FAILURE
Bought a nice case off eBay, swapped cases---CASE FIT, WILL POWER ON FOR EITHER A FEW SECONDS, OR DOES WHAT IT DOES NOW, OR SAME AS ABOVE
Tweaked to try and fix it---DOES WHAT IT NOW DOES, NOTHING MORE OR LESS.

Also they power fuse DOES have current through it, same with every component I have tested on the motherboard (One heck of a ton of them)

OK, after hours on Google, and more on Bing, I discovered it may be the shielding. This is a possibility because I have bent it quite a bit... But wouldn't it still work out of the case? Please help me out guys, I don't really know where else to go at this point.

thats your problem the case remove it and make sure you didint damage any components while trying to fit that case. in my opinion i think that you have a short

I took it out so It was just the motherboard+wifi/ms board+powerboard and it wont work still. I guess I have to replace the mobo, then I'll see if it works.

Well I bought a new psp today, but the mobos are different models so I am just going to go with hardware failure as the result on this one

One thing i had problems with before was the power switch board. I had one psp that would not turn on and it turned out the cable to the power switch was not connecting propperly. This was on a psp2000. If you can find a fat power switch board, i would try that.

yeah that would have worked... i know that the psp 1000 power switch can be touchy... and the psp 2000 and 3000 even more so.

so give that power switch thing a try and who knows? you may end up with 2 working psp's!

one to mod one to play. lol

Yeah I swapped the powerboards, they both work (the powerboards) but the first one just wouldn't turn on. The 2nd one is a ta-079 and the first a ta-082 so can't check the WiFi card. I'd buy another motherboard but I still don't know what the problem is. I know it's hardware, probably a short, maybe later tonight I'll clean the thing and spend a few hours with a multimeter trying to find any possible bad components, hopefully I can get it working
