my friend is giving me i think is his nano ipod... he has told me that it has a problem + mumbbled something that i thought he said was the charging of the ipod..i reasked him what he said  turns out it charges and turns on but....nothing..cant listen to it,upload to it,..nothing..like if the ipod got scrapted..or formated......anyways i asked him if he tryed the rest botton (center + play/pause botton) he said still nothing..it turns on but...blank....what do i do?? is the problem with the firmware?.... if it is in that case can i download ipodwizard and create my own firmware??

Or

Can i download itunes and find the gen and reset it? will it reset or do i need to know more beside the gen??
((B.T.W. he doesnt know what gen it is and im new to ipod..i do have an mp3 player from audiophase but i never held touched or for that matter looked at an ipod beyond from a tv screen) =-/

i had the same problem with my first ipod nano. the first generation ones are either black or white and have a chrome silver backing, the second generation ones can be green,silver,blue and black and are all one colour except the top and bottom. to fix you all you should have to do is plug it into itunes and click restore. it finds the correct update and model of the ipod for itself you should be alright.

awsome..ok.. so sence im a first timer i have never used itune i do have it on my computer i think i have version 7 ...will it read the ipod od do i need to finda downgraded version of itune so it can read the ipod rest the ipod and update the itune

will it update the ipod as well??

You will want the latest version of iTunes.

Connect the iPod, allow iTunes to find it, click restore.

yeah id reset and then restore, you might lose everything but its better than having it just not being able to use it

thanks...my friend just got married 4 days ago im waiting for him to get back from his hunnymoon so he can give it to me..right now im looking through dozen of tuts...so far everyone sayes the same...i still dont know what gen he has..when i get it ill use the pic i can see the diffrence's in gen 1 and 2 and deffinanlty in gen 3 .....i think he might have gen 2 ...not sure..ill let you know when i get it for now im doing a ds lite mod with UV led lights in the dust cover

Gen 2 have a housing that is made of only one piece, that means it goes all around the whole iPod. The first Gen ones have a silver shiny backplate and just a simple faceplate. I mean that's a very easy to see difference.

lol true..still i dont knwo what gen he has yet...*sigh* he still hasnt come back..its been over 4 days...i gues he is enjoyign himself....anyways yeah i hope its gen 1 i got an scriber and i want to design somethings

ya i had the same problem with my old ipod...it wasn't a nano it was one of the older ones 20 gig.....i tried restoring several times but it just keeps doing it..i can't figure it out
