« on: January 06, 2008, 12:50:43 PM »
k, my gaming computer is almost done. i just put in my nvivida 8800 GT alpha dog addition vid card but it says i need a 500 way power supply. my case only came with a 430 watt though, would it hurt my cooomputer to try and boot with the lower power supply?

wouldn't it just not run at full capacity if the power supply was short?

go buy a new PSU because your will have a laggy glitchy system and worst case you might damage your nice new card. it will be better in the long run.

I imagine with that card you have that you also have multiple hard drives and a couple if not several gigs of ram, a cd drive, case fans, usb devices, sound card....they add up, get a new PSU.

mine is a 650, haven't had it running long, but my buddy who helped me build has been running his for some time now, but we had and extensive discussion with the tec guys at out local computer store about who makes the best power supply, and we came to the conclusion that if you were willing to invest the money a kilowatt Maxcool would last you the rest of your life

well yeah a kilowatt would last forever because the capacitors must be very highquality, i stand corrected.
