Mac or PC or Linux?
« on: April 20, 2008, 12:42:22 PM »
Surprised there wasn't already a topic for this, or the search button isn't working.

Just give a little description of  what one you think is better.

just vote. no qouting post only pros of or cons of your choice.
I choose PC since it has so many programs, it's great for gaming, It's generally easy to work with. And it's pretty. O i guess p.c. can still be linux which is a whole other beast.

PC

1- Powerful hardware that doesn't cost an arm and a leg (built my quad core for 600 bucks)
2- Customization, not every one is the same
3- Generally easy to use (until abused)
4- Cheaper, higher performance per dollar
5- Vista, I love it, I networked my home and business together with no sweat involved (Printing over WAN FTW)
6- Can run Vista, XP and Linux
7- Hackintosh  :w00t:

Linux.

Runs XP
Runs Mac
Runs Cedega (Ok, this one kinda sucks...)
Not so good for gaming, but it can play most games pretty well, although you have less system resources.
Faster then XP
Much more customizable then XP
(If you have Ubuntu) you can choose between 2 GUIs whenever you want, at login.
Full multimedia support, even more then Windows.
Everything, including the distro, is free, or a free alternative can be found with relative ease.

One word though:
If you don't like CLI, go XP.

well, ubuntu can play loads of games, you just need to know how.
i even use my SLI on ubuntu....
you dont really need it cause linux needs 50% of windows to run smooth.

and the CLI rocks, its verry easy

Im gonna have to say PC after resurching. Expessionally for a gaming computer. It seems like you get alot more for your money. The only downsides ive found about PC is more viruses, and maybe some compatability issues. But there is alot more compatablitiy issues for mac, expessionally with games again. And you can get a 4gb DDR2, 1Tb hard drive, 768mb video, on a PC for the same price as 1gb, 350gb hard drive and 256mb video on a mac. Even on laptops, it seems like you get alot more bang for your buck.

They all have ups and downs when it comes to security and the like. So for me it boils down to performance/price ratios (I build mine, big moneysaver), since I game. Windows for me, XP SP2 to be exact. Never had a problem with it, and if you take care of any computer you'll have no problems with it (Unless its windows ME lol). Virus scans, Malware scans, Defrag and you're golden. Keeps it runnin just like the day you got it.

Well, if you mean a 3.06Ghz Core 2 Duo with an 8800 GTS (Underclocked to GS Speeds ¬.¬) IS all about make?

The iMac has become even better value, and that is why popularity is increasing, not only as OS X gains the lead over Vista, but also looks, and value.
