N64 annalog mod -> trieing to figure it out..
« on: June 09, 2008, 01:22:07 PM »
Hi all, i bought an oldscool N64 including the box, one controller and 20 games or so for 10 bucks (wich is a great deal). The analog stick is way too loose, even tough i fixed it a litle bit. As the N64 analog's are the N64's weakes point, i tought about using PS1/PS2 analogs. Tho its a completely different system. The PS1/PS2 ones use 2 pot meters with voltage checkers so it calculates the rotation. And the N64 seems to be using infrared LED's with holes in the rotating disk so it knows how far the rotating disk is turned.

I have very few knowledge of electronics (tho a friend of mine does have lessons with programing (eproms for example) i cant pull this off myself. I need something to get started with.

Altough the N64 controller's expension slot probaly needs to get removed in order to get parts in it in order to recalculate the rotation. Anyone interested in helping me out a bit?

After this i tought making a vertical N64 case mod (witch new casing). Wich should be easier to do then this.

Thanks
Ö

Instead of replacing the actual mechanism, couldn't you just give it more retention with say, a spring?

@hglazm: Already tried that, but its still a bit loose. Also some of the mechanism teeth are damaged..

Ill post some highly detailed pics later this day (im recharging them now). Also today i tought about something that might be harder, but if its not too hard to do, it will rock as hell. Yup, you know what im thinking about, the Sixaxes  .

Altough i think it will be more complex to do, and those sixaxes are quite expensive imo (maybe a third party one will do (if anyone finds a cheap one, please tell me))

Well, it 'should' be do-able (the ps2 annalog), well see how that turns out. Ive got 4 spare controllers anyways, so.
