PSP Laptop Projet
« on: June 19, 2008, 11:53:49 AM »
So I just finished building a custom laptop wii for one of my clients so I'm gonna bump it to the next level a PSP laptop it will be about the size of let's see 2 dvd cases put together it will have full IR keyboard support with built in keyboard I don't know how I'm gonna do the controller maybe hook up a ps2 or ps3 wireless controller up via USB I also heard of an internal HDD mod for a psp so I was thinking why get rid of the UMD drive have that and the internal HDD mod to go with it I'm gonna play with it till I got all the specs down I just need help from anyone on here....

Anyone know if a touch screen would go nice with this mod?

Anyways will update with pics and video once I get started on this project I will submit some schematics drawing of how it will look and all I might try and get some help from ben heck...

PM me

The PSP laptop has been done before, a quick search of the forums should turn up the thread. IR Keyboard you could do with PiKey. You couldn't hook up a PS2 or PS3 controller via USB, as the PSP only acts as a USB slave, not a USB host. You could hardwire a controller to the button contacts, though. No one's ever got a touch screen or internal HDD mod working (There's alot of progress going on in this thread though https://www.acidmods.com/forum/index.php?topic=18521.0,) and the touch screen in particular would be really impractical and costly as you'd have to basically write a brand new CFW with support for it.

Good luck with your project.

Anyways I cold create my own shell for it and do it just ben heck right?

It seems to me it be fun project just mad I wasn't first to think of it....

Oh well its worth a shot....

Let me know any other good idea's that would suite this project and how do touch panels go for??

well if you do create this thing a laptop with a touch screen is called a tablet, hence you just came up with a new idea!!!
Aren't you excited.

No,he still didn't.

If you go through a search of the forum, the touch screen really isn't to practical at this point. IF by some miracle you get it working, it won't be an actual touch screen like you want it to be.

Good luck...

Go on to PS2Dev they supply the firmware for the chatpad and you just have to flash it to a PIC and wire it up.

Not $130. You can get a Xbox 360 Chat Pad for $30, a PIC programmer for $20 and a PIC for <$10.

hmmmmmm that looks ill as hell....

I want mine to be more square like almost a DS....

I was wondering is there anyway to test custom firmware on your computer without having to worry about messing up the PSP?

No, Keep a Pandoras battery at hand if you are worried. Also, have a look at the Pandora gaming system if you looking for a DS shaped PSP laptop
