Red direct led sound mod question...
« on: July 02, 2008, 12:02:33 PM »
I've just been modding my mates psp with red leds. Have two so far (direct sound mod, no swich) for the triggers and adding another two when the jewel turns up. worked fine for awhile, but every time i play a song at full volume, the psp shuts off.

all that means is that the LEDs are taking too much power from the psp's battery for it to function.

There are a few solutions to this:

1: take out the two extra LEDs and stick with only two.

2: wire the LEDs with an LM386 amplifier. This should solve your power problem because it reguires less power from the psp.

3: get a more powerful battery. This should give the psp more power so it can run the LEDs. You could try a Sony MAX 2200 mAh battery or an after market extended life battery.

Hope this helps.

The battery would increase the battery life, but not the watt output which is what is giving him the problem.

Thanks for your help guys! i've ordered a soundboard mod from wiredinput. Does the board already have the chip installed, including the resistors? (Having a proper noob moment over here, lol)
