PSP internal hdd
« on: July 05, 2008, 06:00:24 AM »
hi
Ive got this double sd to mmc converter ("bonds" to 4gb sd's to act as one mmc) and i'm wondering if i can install it inside the psp without removing the umd drive and still eb able to use normal mmc cards. basically just asking if there is enough room (sd converter with sd's measures 6cm long by 3cm wide by 4mm high). also if there is a way to make a switch that will allow me to swap between hdd and normal mmc slot. (and yes i have checked out the topic on internal datel hdd but im not wanting to remove the umd drive)
thanks in advance

NO!!!

How many people are gonna ask questions like this....

If you havent checked the UMD cage in the UMD drive is like 1/2 CM so you cant get it in there,

And you cant fit that under the wifi board again there is about  1/2 cm under there.

Its  very easy to see that thats is not gonna fit in reality.

OK so you put the converter in the UMD drive how do you wire that to the wifi board and be able to use UMD's? You would need to take the psp apart every time you want to use UMD to un-solder the 10 wires going to the wifi board. So.......god luck

AND- Its not an HDD dude, an HDD is a Hard Drive.....

oh sorry i got you confused... i dont wont to put it in the umd drive unless i have to (and i wont be using umd's if i do), im just looking/asking if theres is any internal space in the psp to put it without major complications... and i realise its not a harddrive its just quicker than saying "psp double expand memory converter" everytime

Get rid of it for this mod and more mods to come, and you can also sell it to get some money.

well im having trouble installing the converter, ive taken my psp apart completely but when trying to connect the converter to the ms/wifi board, i am unable to solder the ms bracket off the board. Any other ideas of getting it off (without ruining the board completley)?
(btw im following the tutorial of the internal Datel hard drive)

umm somenos has already done it with the datel hard drive, this converter is considerably smaller and the only thing im having trouble with is removing the memory stick bracket from the ms/wifi board...and Ive done several other mods to my psp (sound reactive led, usb charge ps2 analog swap etc...)...

Leave the connector there and just use it to attach to. The connector has no active parts so it will not interfere with your mod.

It also gives you a more stable point to attach your wires to.

but because its metal won't it short circuit the wires?, the points you have to solder to are quite difficult to get to without  removing the bracket

The paint will insulate it so it can't short

It is perfectly fine to solder to the MSPD Slot on the WIFI Daughter Board, It has been done many times and you should have no problem

Just take out the umd drive, if you manage to make this work then you can have massive amounts of storage for all the umd's iso's. And the drive will be worthless unless you get a new game, then just use a friends psp to rip the iso. Or instead of putting two 4gb sticks in you can buy on 8 gb (my friend got one for 80 bucks), or get a 16 gb which can be anywhere from 150 - 300 bucks.

The UMD Drive can be taken out of the PSP, is like is not needed anymore,

Take out the UMD motor(the one that Round aroun the UMD)
Take out the Drive motor (the one that Moves the Lents o rad UMD's)
Leave cable for energy and leave cable that were conected to the UMD Lents (that reads)

May  be someone can figure out how to hook a 1.8 Hdd (Ipod Video HDD) on that back, of the PSP Phat, after removing all that UMD Stuff.

Using the flex cable of the Ipod Hdd that have 40 pins out aprox. and 20 pins in.
The PSP drive /lent cable have 15 pins aprox.
We can take out all of the PSP UMDdrive(lents and cables exept the energy cables to give energy to the hdd.

The HDD may be it can be hooked with the UMD cable out (were the UMD lents cable goes) and mix it with the Energy cable that goes in the midle(The cable that the Umd Motor Drive use to run the UMD's)

Well All this is just a fantasy , it can be true but too much crap to do, and no candidates to rip apart their psp's and do experiments...

Well I am one, I have 2 PSP Phat, one that hasn't been opened and other is like crushed, but it works and after all I got it for Free, everything works except the Backligth  Flex cable of 4 pins in, cable get messed up when Hooking up, and the pins fell off...

Now it doesn't have pins -_-

But I was thinking if I can solder another cable to the fuse inside the back light   on the left of all 7 leds...

I mean I just need a cable to transfer energy so i can turn on the Light, the FD fuse still works, so no is not the fuse.

Then solder that cable out of the back light fuse to the FD fuse directly or just to the four pin connector where the flex cable used to be?

So any Ideas?

Thanks!

Will not work in any way shape or form.

If you can write a disk operating system, and you can interface it into the PSP
CFW. Then your hd would be read only you could not write to it.

That is why we are working on other ways to do it.

Its like sitting on one side of a cliff and there aint no bridge.
