Whats the best way to cut a umd for a jewel?
« on: August 13, 2008, 05:48:58 PM »
besides a dremel and for those who have done the sound reactive mod, i have a question. My leds don't seem to blink as much as what i have seen on other people psps. Its just a faint blink.

as far as the umd door, I would use a dremmel personally, but you could also drills and sand as the guy above me said. Also(if your good), you could try cutting it out with a hobby knife or exacto blade. One other method that nobody seems to list is to use one of those drill attachments that you use to make a hole in a door for the knob or the lock. Just find one the same size as the outsideof the silver ring.

As far as the LEDs, they are probably not getting enough power. Try to use LEDs that use less.

I have a tool called a fly cutter. It is like a compass it is adjustable and
you just set the diameter and make a single cut mine adjusts from
3/4 inch to 4 inches.

the way i do it is i cut the back of the cover where the circle is with a knife(just make a deep grovve)
then turn around, to where the silver ring is and cut around it and press / bend the circkle until  it start to rip it self! off then just grind! it to a perfect circle =)

i used a hairdryer to melt the glue under the silver ring and use a blade to pry it off then use the blade and keep going around in circles and it should eventually come off then just sand it :#1:

thanks toad and indy for the sigglys

i have found a much simpler way, cut a hole in the center with anything put some pliers in the hole and simply snap the plastic. when you get to the silver ring slide a blade or knife underneath and pry it off. then simply continue with the pliers, put it near to the edge of the curve where the silver ring used to be and just bend it to snap it off, it will follow the curvature of the shape and leave you with a pretty much perfect circle, i then simply file the rough edges and your done.

That sounds alot harder than using a drill...
