Hello, I have been reading non-stop about making rapidfire controllers.  I still have a few questions that I haven't found answers to.

Which method is the best for new/old controllers?

For old, can I simply do the "no chip" method that is found here:

For new, can I just buy this kit:

15 watt soldering iron
solder
30 gauge wire

Also, what size bit do I need to drill into the controller to place the button?

Just buy a chip from that store, they're best for all of them. Don't do the no chip method, it's not that good and only works if certain variables are met.
Obviously that kit will work on both, it SAYS it will. Why wouldn't it work then?

Parts list is fine.
And for the button hole, it all depends on the button. Wait till you get it then drill it depending on how big it is...

also i have found it easier to start with a small bit and work your way up to the size you want. it looks cleaner and it is much easier.

Does it include 2 buttons?

Also, is there anywhere cheaper to get the screwdriver from?  $10 is a little pricy.  My PSP screwdriver was $2.

yeah theres 2 buttons in the picture so you get 2 buttons. also check ebay for torx security drivers

Alright, and is there any difference between the 3 wire kit and the regular no-chip method?  Is it the same procedure and does it give the same results?

no, the three wire kit uses a programmed pic microcontroller. anything that uses a pic is going to be more consistent, in this case. go with the kits or just the chips that mike is selling on wired input

buy a chip or get one from somewhere its worth it cause its guaranteed to work unless u fie the chip or controller

I am a little confused about the screwdriver bit to use.  Is it just a T9 bit?

its a t9 security bit. regular t9's dont have the little indent in the middle

Do you know if I could get them at ACE hardware?  I recently found one near me.

just get a really small flathead and jam it in one side of the screw. thats what i do now and it works just fine

I will be adding some LEDs since the controller will be open too.  Blue should be a nice change.

Final cost: around $25.  Not bad at all.

Anything else I need?

hey dont get that bit it wont fit into the deeper holes where the screws are in the bottom. and if you want cheap leds go to sickmods.net  i got a bunch of leds from them like 20 cents each and they shipped fast for lik 4 bucks

Also, will I need any resistors if I put blue or UV LEDs in the controller?

if you have a really small flathead just use that, it works fine. you could try autozne if you really want a torx tho, i think they have them. check the site first. as for your resistors, yes you will need them. for 4 20ma blue leds wired in parallel its a 22ohm resistor (same thing for white ones) . if your doing anything different than that check the resistor  calculator http://ledcalc.com/#parallel

So, I can't just swap out the LEDs?  I plan on doing blue ones first.  How do I wire the resistors in?

ohoh nvm i thought you meant leds for like the dome or buttons and stuff. sry thats what im doing. if your gong to swap out the ring lights on your controllers you just take the green ones off and put in your new ones. make sure you put them on the right way tho. yeah you dont need resistors for the ring on your controller

Great, that doesn't sound hard now.  Do you know where I can get the correct bit?  I need it fast, so a local place would be great.  Or if someone has an extra on here, I can buy it from them.

Is the only game it works in COD4?  That wouldn't be a problem, but working in Halo 3 or other FPS games would be great.

you want to avoid bits because they wont be long enough, just look around i guess, i havent even found one thats not in a set. the rapid fire works in all games with semi auto guns, but not in halo, because its too fast and halo doesnt recognize it

if you need a driver fast try the local auto parts shop and hardware stores,might be a bit more than buying on the net but probably faster

I got the cheapest shipping.  It was less than $2 for 3x 3-wire rapid fire kits.  I got an "order update" email yesterday telling me I would be getting a tracking number soon.  It also told me the item would ship out today(which was yesterday).

I just hope I get the stuff before Friday.
