Try a new laser? Or drive?

New PS3, or a New Blu-Ray Drive, MAY fix the problem.

cos it could be the blu-ray disc drive controller chip couldnt it? if thats gone its a new mobo, so you might as well get a new PS3.

Ahh yes, Best Case is its the Drive, Worst case is the Mobo, $100 and you get lucky, or $400 and you have one that doesnt play games.

not really, if they get hot, or encounter an error they can malfunction, true of any solid state chip.

Processor is pretty much bullet proof yes, but only because of cooling, the BR Chip is a Dozen for a Dime, and likely to fail.

But, a high risk and high skill job will usually cost atleast $100, with a low success rate, and ofcourse, it may not even be the problem.

We dont even know if the BR Controller is available, as Very few PS3 Parts are off the shelf, and the Chip would have been programmed t control a certain type of BR Drive etc.

its just the drive...... sony started using low quality lenses on their ps3 BD drives to reduce the cost.... only the 60gb ones had superior quality lenses.
and also in the newer ps3s sony has started using two lenses.... one for dvd/cd other for BD ...........make sure to change the correct one(applies if ur has 2 lenses)...
