hmmm
i tried this with a nintendo gameboy but epicly failed....
it was too big for any conventional calculators except for $100 plus ti calculators and i wasn't willing to invest that much. also the rewiring for the buttons was harder than i expected and it took me ages even to find the right button pinouts (through trial and error). but i never thought of soldering the cartridge directly to the gameboy. so you might have more luck than me... heres a pic anyhows

I have a TI-83 that has a broken screen if anyone is interested:

It has a broken screen but in perfect condition besides that. It sounds like it would be a perfect calculator for this project.

I'll sell it for $15 + S&H (probably like 6 bucks for shipping?)

message me if anyones interested.

he's right
but you could make it soo much better

rewire the internals
make it more ergonomical (not have the start and select buttons at the bottom of the calculator)

and if your really tricky, have two lcd's, one being gameboy and another could be a basic calculator with the basi calculator buttons being rewired to the Ti 83's or whatever you use.

How can you not figure it out?

It is only five wires.

the easy but kinda dirty (i say dirty because its a lot "nicer to do it using the actual pinouts) way to do it is to solder two wires to either sie of the button and just do the same on the calculator side

But that does the exact same thing  :boxed:

On the buttons, on one side is the button signal, and another the common ground, once a button is brought low the gameboy registers a press, this is the same with almost all buttons

true but you still have to options of where to put the wires, the pinouts (like this guy did) or solder directly onto the buttons
p.s. another idea for the gameboy inside the calculator is to add a backlight cos the guy that did it said it was kinda dim

Oh so once you connect the signal and ground, it completes a circuit registering a press?

Yes, there is an MCU constantly checking the status of its input pins (Connected to the buttons)

And it is a silly idea soldering to the vias, when there are some much better test points.

So how do I go about rewiring it to other buttons such as those on the calculator?
