E79. What to do?
« on: December 08, 2008, 07:01:18 AM »
Hey guys, I have a flashed xbox (no HDMI, hitachi drive) and it started freezing up last night.  I turned it back on after the flash and played for about half an hour without a problem.  It didn't freeze again, but I ended up turning it off and going to bed.  Today I turned it on, and it freezed after 5 minutes.  I turned it back on, and it freezed again after another 5 minutes.  Same thing happened again.  After turning one once more, it gave me an e79 error.

I read up on llama.com and it said it was either the hard drive or the internal connection to the hard drive.  I tried the hard drive in another system, and didn't have a problem.  What can I do?

by flashed you mean modded firmware correct???

not sure about the error message, but mine did the freeze after about 5 mins. everytime I booted a game. is it the normal freeze, where it just locks up? or it it the freeze where it makes a funny noise and the screen colors get lines and destortion?

not sure about the first one, probably the e79 issue

the second type of freeze is a bad gpu. good luck with that MS replaced mine. for a fee after one year, but yours is flashed so good luck

No lines or anything.  Just frozen screen.  Nothing would change when I pressed buttons or anything.  I had to physically turn the system off by the button on the system.

And yes, I mean modded firmware to play backups.

Yup, that is it.  I was surprised because it was working absolutely perfectly. The problem came out of nowhere.

I was told to just redo the x-clamps.

So is there any use saving it?  Should I just sell for parts?
