Hey guys,

This is my controller paint job. Its nothing special. But the mod is half done, it still needs its blue LED's.

Well first I sanded it with 400 grit wet and dry. In a tutorial I saw you should actually wet the controller and then sand. Then two coats of plastic primer brand: plasti-kote and then one thin coat of paint and then I left it for 24 hours and then a thick coat of paint. The paint was Rusto-oleum universal advanced formula all surface paint. I've been like documenting the mod as I went along every significant change I recorded. So once my LED's are in I'll put the video together which shows all the stuff I used. Its nothing special. I wanted it to be unique and look like a professional one. One which looks like you could buy it in the shops, so no designs.

Lol thanks. Man with the knowledge you have, you could pimp the hell out of your controller. Thank you again for your advice. You should try aye. We should have a paint off lol :P

LOL no problem... I read a lot so I know a lot, but I have almost no handson experience... If I tried actually painting a controller, I'd probably forget to take off the casing and then do some wet sanding lol

nice paint job dude - i just started painting my chatpad i just sanded it an put first layer of primer. now letting dry before sand again then another coat then the black thin coats then thin coats of clear

i have a controller that looks the same. all i did was put part of a white controller into my black one. got the same look w/o all the work. looks good though. almost a perfect match to mine

Thank you, it was my first time so I just read the can 5 times and followed what it said to the letter. I got my blue LED's today. Too bad my iron is broken

. I start work again on the 5th. So I'll just take it in there and use their soldering iron. I'll have pictures up soon.

Yeah, I was thinking about it, but not sure yet. I might just do the dome. I don't want to stuff up the buttons.

did you put on a clear coat? you could do that to make it shiny.

Nah, I don't like shiny. I wanted to keep it the same texture as much as possible. Plus, the paint already had enamel in it.

I think it looks pretty good the way it is. You did an led swap and this paint job right? What else are you planning to do? I think I might spray paint some kind of controller to be so glossy it's like a mirror image...

I might light up the guide button, not sure yet. I'm first going to do it on my other controller, see how its done, and then do it on this one. I feel like this one is so fragile lol. I'm too scared to touch it in case the paint comes off, its my baby :P

and dude I can't wait to see your controller. By mirror image do you mean the same as mine but glossy or no color but SO glossy that it reflects everything like a mirror (like a glossy clear coat) ? BOTH are great ideas. Lol you should make it black but GLOSSY as hell. Keep us posted. Good luck.

Can't do it for like 5 months because it's the middle of winter and up in Canada we average at like -10 celcius

But right after everything thaws out (sometime in march/april) I'm definitely gonna get started on it. I'm planning on spray painting some sort of controller (probably 360, they're the cheapest, even though I don't own a 360), and I will probably spray my ps1, xbox, and possiblly computer. The method i'll be using was done on a computer, but i"m sure I could adapt it to a controller. Although the 360 controller has many curves in it, I think the mirror finishw ill still show alright. Here's some pictures of the final finish on a computer case (not my pictures, found them on internet):

It appears that the only type of paint I can find is Krylon Fusion for Plastics so I suppose that's what I will use. I really wish I could spray paint in the winter though.

I'm sure the guys at store can give you some advice on how to achieve your awesome idea. Lol I understand how much it sucks having to wait to do a mod. I reckon its worse than waiting for Christmas...Keep us posted.

My garage is still averaging at -5 celcius which is WAY too cold to do a good paint job, and my dad doesn't want me spray painting in an enclosed area...

Hmm that could work. Still the cold problem. I dunno my dad just doesn't like the idea of me spray painting in the winter for some reason... Oh yeah it'd make it smell, too, so I'd have to air out the garage for a while after I'm done.

Ahhh, true true. That sucks. Does your school have any like painting booths or something ? In my school with have a room, a HUGE suction vent at the end and then we have an airbrush thing...but the cold would still be a prob. Aww that really sucks man.

I wouldn't follow EVERYTHING it says, like sanding in between coats. I tried and it started taking paint off. But its your choice. Hope it helps. Post pictures when done :P

Cool tutorial, btw since it has no clear coat will the paint stay with out chipping?
