diff color leds , diff voltages ?
« on: December 25, 2008, 08:13:44 AM »
So if the leds are diff how does amp make them equal?
OR how much voltage does the amp give off?
idk how to put the question together

The amp gives off the same voltage. You need to add resistors to level out the voltage for the LEDs.

And next time search.

u have any idea what voltage it gives off?
and what kind of resistors i would need?

Well since you're in the slim section, I assume you're talking about voltage coming off the amp on a slim. (turns out, the voltage off a slim and a phat are different)As for the voltage output, I was wondering the same thing but not many answers. I put in a blue led with no resistor, and the led blew right away once sound came out, but I have heard 10 ohm resistors will work for blue leds. I would test it, but my multimeter snapped...  :cry2:

hmm can i use 1 resistor for many leds? or 1 for 1

Yeah those would work - I think 1/8w would work better because it's smaller, but if space is not an issue, 1/4w works too. You can use 1 resistor for many leds if you wire it in parallel, I think. Here's a diagram.

so oh the PLUS side i mount the resistor. then i wire off leds from the resistor right?
for green white i dont need resistors...so i wire the leds BEFORE the resistor right?

All you need is a resistor in place, as long as it is before the connection of the leds, or after.

So that means the resistor can be on EITHER the positive OR negative terminal.

so it doesnt matter if i put leds before resistor it will still be with resisted voltage?
but if i dont need resistor for white and green ones where i put them then?

If you don't need a resistor for them, than all you have to do is connect the leds to the terminals.

Okay. Do you want to hook up 5 different colors of different voltages, or one at a time? If you wish to connect all the different colors, then it'll be wired something like this:

Each resistor would be resisting the correct voltage for each led, and if there is no resistor needed, just take out the resistor. Darkshot means by terminals as in just wire the led directly to the power points and just don't use a resistor.

What the heck are you doing?

Why have you put the same value resistor on each led's branch???

i got white, green (3.5 both)     Red ,Blue, yellow (2.5)  i would only need resistors for 2.5 v leds  right? so how would i do that? cuz i only need resistors fpr 2.5 not 3.5

Because I'm just showing how to wire it, not what resistor values to use.

Uh depends on what your voltage output on the amp is. But first: Are you wiring different colored leds to one amp, or only one color?

Idk probably around 3.4-3.8 volts. if we assume the voltage is about 3.6 volts, then you could wire it like this picture:

and the resistor values would be:

white/green: 10 ohm (This is a little more than what's needed, but I'm assuming your max voltage is 3.5 so we'll cut it safe at 3.4)
red/blue/yellow: 68 ohm (Once again, this is a little more than needed, but we're just playing safe)

Of course the output is an estimate so you should probably wait until someone gives us a definite output.

I think you can get packs of resistors at Radioshack of many different values. Maybe try that. Also my advice may not be the best/incorrect so yeah... But those resistor values should be close and the way I'm showing the wiring should work although it may not be the most efficient.

See, it really depends. The amp gives off variable voltages/currents (No clue which one lol I'm a noob) so you really have to use a resistor for the highest amount of voltage that comes out, unless you want your leds to blow every time you play a loud song. As I said earlier, you should wait until somebody gives you the correct voltage that comes out of an amp, then I can give you better values. I'd check (because I want to know too) but my multimeter is dead. I'll probably be getting a new one tomorrow.

What the hell... Did some testing (tried to anyway) and I must say... WTF!? My multimeter is half broken, but it seemed to test batteries fine so I figured I'd be able to do a little testing on my psp. When speaker is not connected/has a bad connection, idle gives like 3.9v... Then, when I connect the speaker/give it a good connection, all of a sudden it jumps to something like 4.5v. THEN, when I start playing music with no speakers, I'm getting whacked values like 2.5v, 2.9v, etc. I thought the voltage goes UP when music goes. After that I did something stupid and killed my multimeter completely. So I didn't get around to testing music with speakers connected. God damn. Anybody think that putting too much voltage through an led and blowing it might've caused my sound amp to blow something as well?

I tried connecting two different colored LEDs to one speaker and it one color will not work.  Does anyone know if it is true that you can only wire same colored LEDs to one speaker?

Psp, did you wire in parallel or series? If it's wired in parallel, I think you have to add resistors to equal resistance out or something and I don't even think you can wire it in series O_O. I don't know, but I know you can wire up diff color leds, but there's a certain way to do it. Still, the main question is: What's the voltage coming out O_O

I wired 1 blue and 1 green led to one speaker. One color will not light up. I wired them in parallel.

I forgot which one doesn't light up. I remember trying 2 red+2 white and white does not light up.
