Need help doing a mod.
« on: February 20, 2009, 05:50:37 PM »
Hey guys i have friend that just asked me to a mod that is complicated He wants to have 2 different set of leds 4 blue and 4 purple. What he wants is to be able to switch from one color to another and also switch to either sound reactive and and no sound reactive pretty much plane color on what ever color its set on. Also he want to be able to turn the leds of and on. Any suggestion on how i can complete this task.

I know there a way to program it with micro controller as i have been told but i ahve no knowledge on how to do that.

Sounds like your bud wants a complex led features.

yea i think i can do it with just switches and wire but idk it may take me 3 switches to do that concept.

hmm you could use wifi switch as the ground for everything, so that you can use the wifi switch to turn everything on and off, Then you'll probably need to add like two double pole switches to change purple and solid, purple and sound reactive, blue and solid, and blue and reactive.

Yea i was thinking something like using the wifi then i may have to use like 4 pin switch for the others. The double pole switches theres like different kinds witch ones are you thinking of that may work well and are small. Well Im going to draw a diagram out of it you think you tell what you think once i get it done bustinthejustin.

What you think of this just found it.

That's only a 3 pin switch I think. One set goes to the positive and negative of your leds, the other three go to your inputs from whatever (sound amp, solid, blue, purple, etc.)

Its a micro double-pole, triple throw switch so yea i guess its a 3 pin i just need to figure out how to draw a diagram of what i want to do using this switch cuz this switch will help out most of what im trying to do.

Ok here is The diagram i make. It uses two switches and the wifi switch. The wifi switch will allow you to turn them on/off because it gives the ground to the leds as well as the LM386.
The two other switches are used to switch between: sound reactive-blue, sound reactive-purple, solid-blue, and solid-purple by using different combinations.

Link to diagram: http://rceckspurt13.googlepages.com/2-Color2-ModeLeds.jpg/2-Color2-ModeLeds-full;init:.jpg

let me know what you think. ill also be putting this in the psp phat section so i can see what more people think of it.

Nice job bro truly nice man. From the looks of it and that it looks liek it should work but one question i also mention in the email for the resistance of the leds going to 3.6 point now both leds have different voltage so how would that work calculate both voltage that would work for both leds.

Wow awesome diagram! Looks good to me. It will look pretty awesome if you complete it. For your different resistance values, just put them on the positive end of the leds, after the switch. Like between the blue/purple switch and the led.

ok so just use one resister that both led sets can work with pretty much.
So say
purples voltage is between 3.0-3.6
blue voltage is between 3.0-3.4
So i can pick to drop voltage down to lets say 3.2 even it out. So having that as the drop down voltage of 3.6 i need a 5-7 ohm resistor right.

i got a way to do it wit 2 switches but it might be a lil ghetto

wat u got to do is on the switch closer to the right put it in the middle when u want it off

EDIT:

fixed the ghetto ness lol

here's the fix

thank u P3nnywise for the sig

hmm its not bad but you kinda loose me on yours j.s2ghetto should try using color and maybe ill be able to follow what your doing but so far rceckspurt13 is really good and should work from the looks of it.

Well I suppose that would work, but since both their forward voltages are min. 3, I'd just go with 3, because leds aren't really made to run higher than that and when they do, they still work but they last shorter and sometimes they get so bright it's just annoying. But my original idea was, that you put the resistors like ghetto. Two different resistors one betwen the switch and each set of leds, and use the correct resistor values.

So the you think i need 2 resisters cuz if there both going set at the same voltage for instance 3 then you dnt need 2. Unless im hearing you wrong.

He's saying to attach the resistors directly to the lead that goes to the leds. One resistor for each set of leds. The only reason I didn't put it that way is because it may make the LEDs not respond as well when it is in sound reactive mode. I guess some experimentation will need to be done. Glad you like the diagram though

Ahhh ok then so a resistor on each with the same resistance.
