Loud UMD
« on: February 25, 2009, 03:26:16 PM »
Ok so after cutting the UMD bay thing (aka the metal part) the UMD is loud and just does not sound right  :nono:. It still loads games fine but there is a loud noise (it sounds like a drill) coming from the drive. Any thoughts? Oh and its in a clear case if that has anything to do with it.

Thanks

It may be that the metal you cut is touching some moving parts. Or since it now not a strong as it used to be, it's more sensitive to the vibrations produced by the spinning disc.

FYI it only makes the noise when reading the disk as in it spins up fine but when the laser... I guess.. starts moving is when it makes noise. Im going to sell this is why I'm asking I don't use the UMDs anymore. But ya noise is only when reading.

Also with the door disconnected from the cage its silent.  :eyebrow:

Edit: Problem solved just had to bend the cage and do some fine tuning!

yea what ever you cut its touching something so try taking the back of the umd off and put ur disk and watch it when its spins and look around and see what it could be touching.
