My Build- Need a few more components-
« on: May 11, 2009, 04:26:11 PM »
NOTE: I WILL BE SELLING THIS RIG WHEN EVERYTHING IS GOOD AND DONE!!

Ok I finally decided to sell a buttload of my stuff to have enough money to build a custom rig.
So far I've made $395 from selling my old stuff on ebay recently (past 2 weeks or so)
Bought: Case, Motherboard, Power supply, DVD Burner, some lights, Video card, Cpu fan, and CPU

What I need to buy: Hard Drive, Monitor, Mouse, Keyboard

My personal feedback:
The case looks great, nice quality
I plan on upgrading the dvd burner after the build
Power supply will deliver enough power and it works (tested)
Lights look nice

Now, what you've all been waiting for. THE LIST..yeah, the list

Modtek Alien-X Case

THE PICS: (WILL BE UPDATING)

Here is the internal amp and speakers I installed yesterday:

Once I sell this I'll have enough to build another (w/ better specs) then I may sell that one...so on and so forth. Then I can build a REAL rig

Upgrade the RAM to something 1066Mhz based. That RAM is garbage (I have 800Mhz) and I'm not sure if it will run (The mobo uses 1066Mhz RAM and I don't remember if lower speeds are compatible).

go for a Ati 4890 ;) it may be a little bit more expensive, but it's really worth the money.

To all of you crying about lag and kicks, remember… when Jesus died, took him 3 days to respawn. Now THAT is lag.

I really like the xfx 4890 cards, they seem to have a little higher clock speed and they look awesome! Lol

I actually had it jumpered to my mom's computer motherboard so I could get everything to turn on.
The color scheme IMO is Black and Blue (with the exception of that fan)
The case has good build quality, but you may not be able to tell in the picture. But, it was only $50 and $18 or so shipping

Pretty nice case :) I had the same one a long time ago.
I hated the screw on the sidepanel where the fan can be mounted.

Thanks FaiN

UPDATE:
I bought a single color fan to replace my other case fan. I may use the other fan in another part of my case. I may decide to swap leds in the fan itself also.

I found another alternate motherboard I really like. Two main factors I involved it with:
The new motherboard has a South bridge SB750, so I will be able to get way better OC results
But, with no onboard video on the new motherboard I will not be using crossfire as planned.

Good motherboard. I don't think you would've been able to do crossfire anyway...that's more than 1 ATI graphics card. Not onboard and a graphics card.

I actually read it was possible by reading some reviews on the site.

The motherboard supports hybrid crossfire. I'm not totally informed about how that works, but I believe you must set the on-board graphics as primary
Here are the reviews and if you search for "cross" in your browser you will see the specific posts

No when they say crossfire ready. they are talking about The One 2card solution from ATi  Where its basically 2 Cards in one using Crossfire. Forgot which card it is. But yea.

Update:
I have it pretty much built so far. I am running XP Pro ATM but I need to buy the permanent HDD, the Monitor, possibly a keyboard and mouse, and a graphics card if I choose.

So far its overclocked at about 3ghz compared to 2.7 and I believe it's running at about 30-35 idle. I will see if I can get a hold of a heat sensor gun thingy  :boxed:

I will be uploading pics either today or tomorrow. I'm in school ATM

That is the mobo I have! Ha, I love it. Right now I am running off of onboard everything. Onboard sound and video. Pushing my 5.1 surround sound and a 1920x1200 monitor. I love it.

Yea dude I also recommended it to Slim Hacker b/c I just simply love it. It's cheap in price, but full in features. That's why I was debating whether or not I should get a graphics card. When I first started the build I had no doubt in my mind I would get one. Now I'm rethinking it

I don't blame you for using your money for other things. The onboard video is great how it is, but if I want it to sell, I may want to go ahead and buy a video card anywayz

Yea, that is probably best for a build under those circumstances.

Well I was actually talking in the video but I hate my voice so I just cut it all out.
I was explaining that I may have to get an adapter for one of the cd drive bays b/c if I were to put the HDD where it's supposed to go the speakers would mess with it.

But I also informed in the video that if whoever wanted a new case b/f they bought it that would be great. That would also mean I can place the HDD where it's supposed to be and not worry about the speakers
