soft drinks
« on: June 12, 2009, 02:58:46 PM »
ok guys I have been told as I know we all have that too much soda is not good for you.. I am 28 and I have drank muntain dew for the past 8 years or so religionusly. I rarely ever drink anything else...well today I ended up in the ER as I thought I was dying. my kidneys are full of stones. this is the most excrciating pain I have ever felt. the male doctors tell me this is the male equvelant to child birth..but the female nurses tell me it is much worse than child birth..

I am telling you this as a warning..lay off the soda and drink atleast three tall glassees of water everyday, and hopefully you will never know what I am speaking of.

My dad got those, and I've never seen a growing man cry before. He said it was such as pissing out a golf ball. But sometimes kidney stones are hereditary, not lifestyle. But your advise IS good, too much soda can lead to calcium buildup (kidney stones). And yes, remember to drink lots of water :D

I dont think so, its aminly from the suggars in the liquid, your body cannot prosess that much sugger and it creates a buildup..some people have this issue as a hereditary problem..but tyipically it is from lifestyle habits. they have me pissing in a cup to catch the stone, so they can test it and see if it is infact sugar related or hareditary. no one in my family has had them so....

also I driank just mountain dew...thats it..I drank it for breakfast, lunch dinner, I even took a glass to bed with me. the sodas are not completly bad for you aslong as it is moderation. on average an you should drink three large glasses of water every day. this will dilute the occasional soft drink..other items to avoid are sweet tea, milk, and soda..milk was supprising ot me, but what is milk? its full of calcium. kids can prosess this more easily as they need the calcium to grow strong bones, but after pubity you metabolisum slows and the adult body, not growing, cannot process it.

I am not trying to scare you I just dont want you to have to deal with this, drink plenty of water!!

I'm fine. I just drink a bottle every day, and a 2l bottle or case occasionally.

the sad thing is i have been trying to slow down n the sugar intake, so what i did was switch to Lipton ice tea. i bought a 12 pack and when i got home there was 11 in the case. i got ripped. but i know mountain dew wouldn't do that. but yea, soda is bad for you. i went to the hospital for stomach pain and chest pain. they said i have urinary tract infection more than likely due to soda. so yea its bad and im only 28.

I can't imagine what it feels like,my father had serious kidney stones when I was young.
Worst feeling I've had was alcohol poisoning when I was 16,I was stuck in hospital for 5 days, vomiting blood, vomit coming out of my eyes, diarrhea, inability to eat or drink (had to be sustained via drips and feeding tubes),I went blind for 2 of those days and couldn't talk.Got bed sores from not being moved regularly. It was messed up at one point I just wanted to die.
Still though dude keep on truckin and give up the energy drinks,I know that giving up addiction is easier said than done (I know because I'm a smoker),but energy drinks shouldn't be as hard to give up as cigarettes!

On another note,I'd love to taste what mountain dew tastes like,I live in France and they don't sell it here, and when I'm in England they don't sell it either! I do,however, enjoy a can of Rockstar when I go out for my morning cigarette.

Another unrelated note, why are cigarettes so expensive in England,I go to boarding school in England and they're twice as expensive as in France, and 4 times more expensive than Russia!

Oh no! dangit, kidney stones are the worst i hear... my coworker said the pain from his was so bad that he was vomiting. I hope you are taking time off.  I never drink soda, probably because it is a worthless beverage for me, as I dont enjoy the fiz all that much, dont get me wrong MD is sugary goodness, but for me when I am thirsty, soda does nothing for me.  My weakness is milk, i am 27 and I can easily drink 1/2 gallon a day without even thinking about it, it is the beverage I crave above all else.  I think it also has to do with a conditioning thing as I have drank milk every day for my whole life.  I let you guys know when my stones come, hopefully it will be a long long time from now.

Matt: hope your birthday wasnt completely ruined by this (see flag day post), but I assume probably it was.
