Quick RAID question.
« on: July 25, 2009, 10:18:33 PM »
Hey everyone, been a while since I've posted here, but anyways I have a question about RAID.

With Windows 7 RC and such, I want to upgrade my storage capacity for all of my media.

If I were to get a 500gb hard drive for Windows and all of my programs, would I be able to set up a pair of 2TB hard drives to store all of my movies, music etc. in RAID 1 for data security?

Thanks.

No they wouldn't. The 2TB hdds would be in RAID 1. They're still going to be 2TB.

The 500gb is NOT in the RAID array. He wants that separate for his OS.

ok same for me, i currently have a 80gb hdd for vista right, im gonna go buy a 1tb for windows 7 ultimate *not the rc either ;), i already have 2 boot cd's *

im gonna partition the 1tb to like 200gbs for windows 7 and the rest for my vista, will that work?

Thanks

wait just noticed somin, k my 80gb drive is my primary one right? the one with vista etc, but for my secondary drive its gonna be my 1tb, and im gonna install windows 7 on there, so how is it gonna boot to vista if theres another os installed on another drive  :boxed:

or should i just copy all my data from the 80gb to the 1tb and make that my primary and the 80gb my back up, and then partition the 1tb into like half or somin, 500 for vista and 500 for windows 7

Alright thanks a lot, so when I set up the raid array I will have the options on screen to choose which two drives I want to set up in the RAID 1 array, correct?

You choose while you set up raid. I setup 2x 640GBs in RAID0 and use them for my primary drive.

Oh I misread what he said, didn't see the 'pair'
