MAC Addresses are hardware specific...you can't change it.

It's probably not out for 3.0
You can't CHANGE a mac address. You can only spoof it so the software thinks it's different (Which WILL cause problems, just like on the psp) but the physical mac address is still the same.

It's pointless.

no, you can successfully spoof the REAL mac address it is not pointless.  You can spoof your computer's mac address using macchanger in linux (people do it all the time when cracking ppl's wifis) and you can also do it on the psp, there are two different apps on psp, one just shows a different mac address in teh system settings, whereas the other one(you can find it on dark-alex.org), can change the real mac address.... and as far as ipod touch fw 3.0 goes i don't know.

thanks chase for this sig =)

sorry, but I 99.9% believe kicks is right, you cannot change the origional mac address. cant do it!! end.

you can spoof it with a software mask, and you can implament the software perminatly so it will allways show as a different address. but you cannot phyisicaly change it. that is the point of the "mac" otherwise known as "phyisical" address.

@ Dhruv, I dont think there is a app out for 3.0 yet.

Yeah ... he wanted me to figure out something coz his college allows wifi access permitted by the mac address, You can register only one mac address per student. He registered his lappy so i though that if he spoofs his iTouch MAC address to be the same as the lappy he could probably use it ...

Any other suggestions ?

Nope, the router will still read it as the original address.

There's nothing he can do, really.

it can be spoofed on a psp and as modded matt said its not permanently done but it still changes the one that is actually sent when wifi is used. http://pspupdates.qj.net/PSP-MAC-Spoofer/pg/49/aid/109651 read the link... and if it can be dont on psp there is probably something made for ipod touch as well...

This isn't a psp, it's different. You obviously didn't read the thread, either.

LOL easy kicks. easy...calm...LOL

there is software for the psp that will allow you to mask the mac address, but for ipod 3.0 it will be a different type of software designed for that os and I have not seen nor heard of one yet.

My sugestion would be to go back, state that the lappy failed and register a new mac, the one of the ipod, then clone/spoof the mac of the lappy...but dont logg both items onto the same server at the same time, it will cause serious conflicts, but thats the way to do it.
