just got my new laptop today

this is the first half decent pc i've had
its an acer 5810T timeline
any ideas what i should download?
already dled the necessities
firefox
itunes
msn
spotify
norton 360

any ideas?

Nero = DVD/CD burning software

K-Lite Codec Pack , allows you to run any format of video but i dont really recommend it .... try vlc instead @ http://videolan.org

Pidgin = MSN , AIM , Yahoo , Gtalk , Facebook , twitter .. all in one ! Its a really nice and stable software and less resource intensive than digsby ... its better to run one software than 5 separate IMs ...

Norton is garbage. Won't protect you. You don't want bitcomet, utorrent is much better.
Get photoshop CS4, Winamp, Ultra ISO, AIM, MSN, CCleaner, and Kaspersky Internet Security.

Someone else can explain what these are, though.

if u want free , AVG is ur best bet....

Pennywise , i disagree with you... Trillian Astra looks nice but can be resource intensive... well i probably like pidgin more coz its the only one that doesnt slow down my POS computer....

You can run more than one AV, but it's nod recommended. I'd say go with Nod32 though. They have only missed one virus to date methinks. Firewall, Zonealarm.

@Dhruv - Trillian's still better...I'm on an i7 Extreme w/ 4 GB DDR3 so I can't complain, xD

Don't run more than one AV at once. It causes problems with both, and you're going to let MORE viruses through that way. Widgets come either with the Vista Sidebar, or 3rd party programs.

No good AV is free. Download KIS. It's the best Antivirus/Internet Security out there.

@Barnsey ... Use Rocketdock for the Mac Style Dock on the desktop , If ur using Vista or windows 7 , then use the inbuilt widgets else on XP use Yahoo Widgets....

Get Adobe Master Collection. Pretty much anything creative you need doing is included in AMC.

get kaspersky. its never let me down (except that one time it said database corrupted and wouldnt let me fix it cuz no admin rights even though i was the only admin on pc, so i had to get rid of windows and install ubuntu) but other than that, it just works

if its at the top you cant type in the www.acidmods.com
if its at the left it block off some shortcuts and if its at the bottom it block of the taskbar

Yes you're being a tard. Start > Accessories > Windows Sidebar.
Put the dock at the bottom, and the taskbar at the top. Or on the side, and scroll with your scrolling on the touchpad.
Or, think and go into the SETTINGS and move it about the taskbar if you want them both on the bottom. Come on you're missing the basics.

kaspersky = awesome but expensive
mcafee = awesome, free with comcast

but no, most AV's make you uninstall other ones in-order for it to run properly

and i agree with kicks, not like it matters much, but utorrent is much more preferred then bitcomet

McAfee is garbage. It comes free with a lot of computers as well.
I had it for a year or so, then switched to Kaspersky, and it picked up over 50 viruses that I had that weren't detected by McAfee...

Mcafee only detected 2 of my viruses. kaspersky made my pc useable again. i had one that turned my desktop into a wierd animated advertisement and filled my desktop with icons to nothing. thats when i stopped using utorrent.

utorrent has no viruses. You just suck at choosing torrents and downloaded viruses.

We have our own PREFERENCES, yes. Preferences aside, Kaspersky is the #1 AV either way.

utorrent is the same, but better.
It's just a different torrent client. If you don't get viruses in the torrents you're downloading, the client won't change that. utorrent is just a better client.

It's just a better layout and everything. Do you even know how torrents and clients WORK? There is not "faster" or "safer", or anything. That all depends on the torrents you're downloading. utorrent just has a better gui and is a better program. More well known too.
