PSP LED Mod Questions
« on: August 13, 2009, 01:46:25 AM »
I was looking for a good tutorial for puttin LED's in my PSP's triggers and found this:
http://llamma.com/PSP/psp_led_lighted_trigger_buttons.htm

It says to use 30 AWG Magnet Wire. Its not only hard to find, but fairly expensive so I had a few questions.

  • Is it necessary to us it or can I use Kynar?
  • If no to the previous question why do they want me to use Magnet wire?
  • What's the main difference between the Magnet wire and the Kynar wire besides the magnetic part?
  • Are there any disadvantage to using Kynar/Magnet wire?

1)Yes you can use kynar, pretty much most modders use that type of wire.
2)Not sure why That type of wire is recommended over kynar, might be because it's thinner, not really sure tho.
3)Apart from what you have already said, it's coated with enamel rather than shrink wrap.
4)Not that i'm aware of.

What exactly is the difference between enamel and shrink wrap?

Does about the same thing really. You shouldn't notice any difference in your application. Like Aphex said, Kynar is most popular in the modding community. The stuff is pretty cheap for a good sized spool and it's readily available.
