PSP UMD compartment battery mod
« on: August 20, 2009, 06:52:09 AM »
Few pictures worth thousand of words. :) so here is it! UMD Battery mod!

Took out the UMD drive.

Front and back view of the UMD battery. Both Li-ion battery(no risky explosion ), parallel connection, with circuit protection board(prevent overcharge and over-discharge).

Copper-stripes.

The copper-stripes will stick on the PSP battery that looks like this.

This is how the whole thing looks like. The UMD battery will link up with the PSP battery externally. This method works perfectly, PSP will start up like normal, just plug&play. Can take out anytime.

   impressive right? lol..

i'm not sure if the indicated time is correct or not. (it's not accurate originally anyway) I'm now testing if it really works that long.

interesting way to use the copper strips to make it removable so you have the power of three batteries, it should last at least 16 hours
should have done it on the slim
i guess you save valuable seconds when replacing the battery with a spare, but is it worth the loss of the umd drive

i've already passed 6 hours of gameplay(Ridge Racer 2) with 333mHz, full brightness and full volume....  and it's still going!!! :faint: MAN, THIS IS TORTURING!!!  :faint:

write a tutorial? lol.... sorry guys... writing a tutorial is not planned.  :sadno:

But anyway, the whole thing ain't hard to build... only simple soldering and most parts are ready made. The circuit control board is a ready-made board. Battery - 2x 1350mAH Li-Ion battery(total of 2700mAH)

The whole battery piece (include circuit board) is ready-made. I asked my friend to get it for me in China. The only thing that i've done is stick the copper-stripe and a few cuts on my PSP.

According to the info(or if u look at the photos clearely), the battery is manufactured by SE (aka Sony Electronics) for Sony Ericsson's phone. With a rating of 1350mAh each. The circuit board is from Sony too. I have no idea where the seller get all this.  :censored:

ok. there's no 'name' for this battery(I got it from China... what you expect?). The few info that i can tell you is it's rated 1350mAH. Branded "SE". which the seller says it's from Sony Electronics. and he told me that this is use to make Sony Ericson phone batteries.

I'll upload more detail photos of the battery tomorrow. Hope the photos can help any modders to get the right one.

Most important:
If u decide to connect your external battery through that '+- hole' of the original PSP battery, please make sure u get a circuit control board to protect your Li-ion battery in case of over-charge or under-change. If not, you'll screw up your Li-ion battery.

Tony: Looks VERY interesting.  Not so sure of it would fit into my phat due to the extra speaker mod.

Can these extra batteries be charged as normal (plug into power socket) along with the main battery, or would I have to charge them separately?

the extra battery can be charged together with the main one, you can remove the extra one any time..but when you plug agian..you must make sure the main one is full charged, or it will be screwed.

just connect them to the pins..

the main battery has its own circuit board so it will detect the battery then the

two extra batter just extend ur battery life and as for the circuit board on the

two extra battery they act as regulator so that u won't over charge ur battery

Hey So 1 Of The Battery Wires Would Connect To 1 of the copper wire on the battery, and the other one to the other one, and i dont need any thing else, i would just connect them both of them and thats it,
and would they both charge if you connected it to charge or would you have to take it out and charge it,
and would it take longer to charge?

ya..just wires the copper corectly (- +), no anything else. the SE battery with circuit protection board(prevent overcharge and over-discharge, just charge them together as normal.no need to take it out.full charge takes 5 hours more or less. then your PSP will last 12 hours at least.
