Need help - Japan trip suggestions
« on: August 22, 2009, 05:24:13 PM »
I'm going in a little less than a month AND I'm being pressured to find stuff to do in Tokyo, so I'm wondering if anyone knows any specific neat things to do/ places to go in Tokyo; museums, districts, stores, shrines, anything: I'm open to all ideas because what I've found isn't enough..

real suggestions preferred

Thank you all in advance,

Sincerely,

me

if you've ever heard of BAPE clothing, there's a store there.

lots of costumed girls apparently ;)

shrines such as Meiji Shrine and Togo Shrine. Yoyogi park.

Ota Memorial Museum of Art and finally Takesh|ta Dori(Street), the heart of harajuku, 'birthplace of many japanese fashion trends'.

1st of all, don't go to Shinjuku, hang around electric avenue  in Shibuya.Do NOT even THINK about spending any of your holiday in Okinawa,it seems tempting but it's :censored:.Eat ONLY in Akihabara, never in Shibuya or you'll be firing the ol' chocolate shotgun for the rest of your holiday.
Another thing, nobody speaks english, when I was in Japan i didn't meet a single person who did, learn as much japanese as you can.Luckily I'm fluent so I was alright, but I couldn't imagine going there without knowing ny Japanese.
Don't eat in public (on the streets)
don't use your mobile on public transport
don't EVER say KAWAII
don't use "watashi" as "I" when speaking Japanese
don't eat the ramen,it's terrible
never buy cheap sushi,or sushi that's packaged
never ever walk around with headphones in your ears, someone WILL rob you.
walking around in cosplay is NOT COOL.
don't ask japanese people about anime.....ever ever ever ever, most japanese people think anime is for geeks an homo's.
the only people who say sake is good is those that haven't drank it,it's terrible, and that's coming from someones who's huge into drinking.

I speak with experience dude,I've been to Tokyo twice and I'm moving over in 2 years, heed my advice.

i am NOT nerdy enough to go around saying KAWAII

i am enough to go to dotonbori just to see the place where there was that big Gantz fight (it's a manga)

i am not fortunate enough to be there when the life size gundam is up in odaiba

Shinjuku is extremely boring and depresing,it's all big corporate buldings with no names on the front.

Using a mobile on public transport is considered very impolite, people will actually come up to you and ask you to stop, you can get a fine for it if you do it in front of a station manager, eating while standing up is also a huge no-no.

Didn't happen to me,but a girl on the trip the first time had the living daylights beaten out of her and all her electronic devices, cash and credit cards stolen.

You won't believe how many americans you will see on shibuya tours walking around in cosplay because they think it's cool, people just threw milkshakes at him.

Expensive sake is good,50$ a litre and it's high quality, any less than that and it's not worth the coaster it's resting on.

its supposed to be taken down at the end of august, which is a big, big kick in the balls because i'm a major gundam fan: bought a :censored:load of the "master grade" models when i was younger, watched the original 1979 show, skipped z and zz, but caught up with char's counterattack and later moved on to the quality spinoffs (g, wing)

hopefully i'll miss the cosplayers... im not sure if september is a big tourism month or not
