Dual displays
« on: January 05, 2010, 12:06:38 AM »
Ok, I am pretty much a newb when it comes to pc's. I have my full hd 22inch monitor running on my pc hdmi output, I also have a spare crt monitor which I could hook up to the vga. Since I use this pc mostly for video editing and image manipulation I was wondering how to set it up so my good monitor could have the project I am working on in the screen, and my cruddy monitor could have the other stuff on it.

I am using my mobo onboard graphics g-force 8800, I poked around with the nvidia controls without much success, I could get both the monitors scrolling the desktop across them but It would turn down my primary lcd resolution alot.

So can anyone help me out, if you need anymore specs just ask, oh and I am running xp.

Well assuming you have vista or windows 7 just right click on the desktop and click screen resolution. There should  be a sqaure with a one and a two, just move them around on how you want the setup to be. On the multiple displays drop down menu make sure you have it set to extend my displays so that way you can drag your programs and whatnot onto the crt. It is really quite simple.

I don't think XP can do that. Install 7, or find some software that can do this

Yes, XP can run a dual monitor setup... and it's also done the same way as in vista and 7... through the display settings option...

oh, that menu was not showing up before. I must of had to reboot my pc so it would recognize the vga monitor. Its working all good now, I have all the useless footage preview windows and project windows in my crt and that opens up loads more space for my actual comp and tools on my lcd.

Thanks for the help, this is really going to make editing easier.

Yea Im thinking of just getting a cheap 17inch non widescreen lcd, don't have any spare money at the moment, don't wana tap into my savings either. Besides the ugly look and the space it takes up its not that bad.

if you have a flea market around check that or check craigslist.org.  they both have them pretty cheap but you have look for a while.
