Analog Stick for PS3
« on: March 06, 2010, 07:52:17 AM »
Hi

Well my cousin has broken his PS3 controller, he has the analog stick broken. I wanted to change it but when I opened the controller I saw that analog stick for PS3 controller are smaller. Here there is a pic:

I have thought in replace it for a analog stick from a xbox controller and wire the contacts but I dont know if when i will do it the controller will not close.

Anyone knows if there are controllers of another consoles wich have this analog stick? I say this because it would be difficult and more expensive to find a PS3 controller broken.

Any help would be grateful, thanks
R86

check out RDCs post on this.  it is a hall effect sensor versus a traditional potentiometer style analog.

The actaul switch bodies are very similar if not the same it is just a different sensor type module that is attached the actuator.  However Alps only has it listed with a resistive sensor:

That stick actually does use POTs, all of the older Six-Axis ones do. The later versions of the Six-Axis controllers are when they switched to the new Hall sensor Sticks.

You can find those older controllers on eBay for parts.

The controller i have actually is one of the older. It has a POT with 3 legs.

I know that an analog stick from Xbox 360 contoller would work becuase I tired it but. I wired all the contacts to the board and it workes. I dont know if to be bigger when I try to close the controller this doesnt do it.

And i would like if there are other controllers with analog stick that are the same or similar size to avoid this problem

RDC I have looking on ebay putting "analog stick" or "analog parts" but I dont find nothing for PS3

No other controllers use those smaller type sticks.

Search for PS3 controller board, or PS3 controller lot. The only ones on there now I see are working ones, or a lot of of 2 or more, and they're priced way too high for just getting a stick from it. You might also want to try hitting up this and other mod sits buy/sell/trade forums for a bad board or the part ya need.
