Icechat is free but is very buggy

mIRC is probably the best free out there. but it shows the fake "30 day trial exceeded"
it features a Scripting languages called mSL (mIRC scripting language) and its one of the easiest Clients I've used

xChat is very easy to use but its not free. its probably features things that mIRC has list Logs, And a much easier to use channel listing menu. but i don't know about the scripting language though

theres also the Client called Chatzilla which is an addon of Mozilla firefox. its free. its easy.

Mac users can use colloquy.
