i guess when sony patched the other os option  it pissed alot of hackers of and we all know what happens when a bunch of hackers get mad. they tend to find stuff that will help them get in another way. well it seems just that has happen a group that goes by the name fail0verflow you may remember them for breaking the wii wide open .the team claim to have found the PS3's "private cryptography key", a skeleton key of sorts for the console that would allow users to install and run their own code on the machine. in a simple terms the key that Sony uses to sign their games which is a lot more fundamental than the sort of vulnerability exploits we've seen on other platforms.

but with the ability to sign games they may be able to sign other stuff going on there cause im sure some of the features like netflix uses the same code

i watched the long 44 minute video on youtube and someone asked if they could sign games at the end and they said, no, its probably possible but we wont be working on it

well thats were i enter the picture. lol

 what the team demonstrated was a thesis of their security.
 but a famus hacker Geohot entered the scenes. he released the master key and boot key. which is a key that is hardwired. meaning it can not be changed with updates. which means developers can sign their apps just like if sony would sign them. no more need for costom firmware now, no jig dongles. or even hacking required, just develop, sign and share! lol.

and well Geohot has also got a hello world working on 3.55 service mode working.
some of you would say.. but it still uses a jig to get to service mode, that is not the point. the point is that a non sony code ran on a 3.55 firmware.

its just a matter of time till this develops. if any of you would wish to develop for the ps3, there is a fully open source sdk out there.

I think Sony is getting mad and is turning green. They should hire that guy who presented the hack.

well the failoverflow team reliced these keys, and theory. but in there conference they even mentioned that if it wasnt for geohot poking around in the otherOS sony would have not closed down that function.  which would not have started the movement. and what he wrote when he gave the "master key" was " if you want to make your next system secure contact me, any of you three" lol. but now the team failoverflow are pissed  that he did not give them credit for their theory, even though geohot gave the keys first to the public that the team. if you checkout geohot.com i cann see the key there. the guy does not even ask for donations lol. well geohot is a excellent member of hacking. he was also responsible for the iphone jailbreak. lol

well i digress, point is now that thouogh lot of peoples hard work there is a custom firmware maker that works on any firmware.3.41, 3.42, 3.50 even 3.55. all it does is allow you to install homebrew. but not unsigned brew only signed. but stll a progress, now peole just have to signs software in a pkg format and presto! lol

Note this does not allow piracy, well not yet of course. but technically all they have to do is sign "backup manager" and Bam!  but just a theory. if you guys wanna know more visit ps3-hacks.com or ps3hax.net but yee just giving my two cents.
