iphone 4 jailbreaking
« on: February 07, 2011, 10:50:35 AM »
ok so this has been discussed 100000 times over. but I have a brand new iphone 4 here. I love it. but there are a few things I dislike. like the crap weather default weather app and no teathering support etc.

what are the real pros and cons. I have no waranty or insurance as attt dosnt cover them you have to buy a waranty from apple. I assume there is a mfg waranty but I wouldnt imagine it lasts long...

I need this phone its part of my everyday life so if bricking it is a viable risk its out. otherwise I dont see why not.

any thoughts?

lol i know if you dont understand its ok

want free stuff jailbreak

dont mind paying for stuff dont jailbreak

those are the only cons and pros i see and had my iphone for 2 years and unless you want game to play in spare time jailbreak it as it comes in handy
I would DEFINITELY have to disagree, you must not utilize cydia very much.... you can get emulators, games not released on the app store, you can even get facetime on 3g for geez sakes... there are definitely more benefits than installous...

cydia is great for anyone to use, you just have to learn how to utilize it correctly, but like i was saying there are many more reasons for jbking than piracy

its not about piracy. I am not a cheap ass. but $20 a month for them to allow me to teather when my BB did for free??? same att same data plan, one phone is free and the other cost 20 per month. all they have to do is....nothing. this is an att money making scam and they should not be allowed to get away with it.

im not on about piracy soon as people hear free they assume piracy on and about cydia with all the gadgets you can download to make your phone look and feel like its worth the money. i have mine jb'ed but still pay for stuff off the appstore . but i do download the tomtom stuff but are way to big sometimes.but if you jailbreak you can start doing your own stuff.

It's definitely worth it. I'm almost 100% positive you can't brick it and you can easily undo it by simply restoring in iTunes and it's all gone and if you send your phone to Apple they won't know. You can do so much with it: Free apps, emulators, themes, tweaks to make things easier. So yeah I would if I were you

stability?
so you can completely undo the jb? and how do i know cyda is not stealing my credit card info?

i've never paid for anything on cydia but to un-jailbreak your phone you can just factory reset it, i have done it a few times.

Yes you can still use itunes.
Yes you can still use game center.
NO you can not update to the next firmware until a new jailbreak is released. If you do, and don't back up your shsh blobs, there is no way to downgrade back to the firmware you were on.
Meh stability is kinda iffy. Since you have iPhone 4 i wouldn't really worry about it, the biggest problem you will ever have are slowdowns.
And yes you can completely undo the jailbreak, just restore your iphone using itunes and all traces of it are gone.
And I really couldn't tell you if cydia is stealing your credit card info or not...

it is highly unlikely cydia is stealing your info plus you use paypal or amazon to pay with.

you use an app called tiny umbrella to back up all your shsh blobs with each firmware you install. even if it isnt jailbroken.

as with flash any firmware to a device especially when its modified you run the risk of bricking but it is minimal and usually recoverable by restore (and if that fails apple may swap it out just say an update whent wrong).

you iphone has a 12 month standard warrenty but you can purchase an extra 2 years on top of that from apple at any point during the initial 12 month period.

you can still use itunes and gamecenter, you may notice minor slowdowns.

my favourite things with jailbraiking are
activator
sbsettings and its plugins
anyring
aptbackup
bytafont
call infofields
covert
cydelete
display recorder
displayout
EZ decline
infiniboard
infinidock
infinifolders
intellidial
mark read
my3g
mywi
myos
pkgbackup
playawake
pull to refresh for mail
switcherplus
voiceactivator
wi-fi sync
tab+
pull to refresh safari
enhanced tabs

Jailbreaking is almost idiot-proof now so danger are minimal, the only real confusion IMO comes in if you need to unlock, but if you never plan to use the phone on a different carrier then it's a non issue, no need to worry about the unlock.

I say go for it and jailbreak. There are so many benefits to it and the only real downside IMO is having to wait for a new jailbreak so you can update to the latest firmware. After jailbreaking I personally can't stand not having my phone jailbroken. It just allows so much more functionality...
