universal games console cooler
« on: February 10, 2011, 11:28:37 AM »
Hey everyone I have a question, and I would like some feedback on it for my class project.

What would you think about a cooling system for multiple game consoles (XBox, XBox 360, PS1, PS2, PS3, and Wii)?

This would be a liquid or air cooled enclosure that could hold from one to all three consoles.

Along the sides of the case would be a game and controller rack that can charge your controllers or other gaming accessories with USB hubs (max 4 hubs, 8 ports in all) that will go from the consoles to the outside of the cooling system.

This is what I have so far, please tell me what more you would like on this cooling system
what you would remove etc... and if you would buy this product.

I will be sure to post and update to this project as well as how it performs.

thanks for your time.

how are you running this? taking power from the console or adapting the mains?

We were thinking it might need its own power and the consoles could plug in to the cooler sharing power, or both the cooler and the consoles would need there own power.

i think a fan system would be easier, because water cooled mods require allot of work and no, because i only have my 360 and nothing else

I think that you should create some kind of shelf with tons of fans/LEDs EVERYWHERE so it looks obnoxious and does the job.

no but seriously build some kind of shelf from particle board and figure out how much space you'll need to frame out the perfect fir for 3+ consoles you want to put in there. don't forget about making it look sleek... possibly integrating slow-speed fans that intake and outtake air so it circulates all round.

Does this spark any ideas????     :D :D

Sounds cool, but we were thinking of something like a case almost like what you can find for the wii and xbox 360 but with a little more freedom like it would be able to hold one console two consoles or three consoles.
it would have interchangeable layers for diffrent setups or if you want to put all of you cosoles in it you could buy two of these coolers and interchange the layer for a more custom setup that would better fit the user.
EX: A PS3 on bottom an Xbox 360 above and a Wii on the top, or that setup but with a second cooler on top so you can have a PS2 above the Xbox 360, and above the PS2 an Xbox with the Wii on the top or you can remove layer for any combination you would like.

Do you want it to hold all of the game consoles at once or do you need it to fit 1 of any of the consoles?

If you're going to hold all the consoles at once you could just build a shelf and have fans coming from the back to cool it.

If the project it to cool 1 console at a time i would not have a first clue except it might have to be USB powered fans somewhere.

Both, when you buy it you will be able to hold 3, but we want it so the user can customize to best fit them.

This is one of those things where its ether one of the other. Don't get me wrong yes it probably can be both but you'll have to put a considerable amount of money into it to get a good end result. Hey, i'm not a mechanical guy at all so I would like you guys to help prove me wrong! The only kind of thing that I can think of is some kind of adjustable frame so any console can fit or all can fit (but how do you do that?).

Im sorry if i have missed some thing but the only way i cant see this working  for all consoles if you designed it like a pc sytle case and you fit the internals of each console in side with fans in the correct places.......i mean look at past cooling systems for non modding they never worked because they had to be fitted outside the case meaning less air flow getting to the correctt parts

This isn't a case for each console to fit in like a replacement its more like a cooling stand, we know the cooling limits but every little bit helps (proven by Xbox 360).

thanks for your comment.

If you do a liquid-cooled setup, you could take an air conditioner that you put in a window and gut it so it only has the radiator in the back.  then move everything else to the sides (pump, resivor) and make a rack in the space created.  You could also replace the fan with some smaller PC fans and replace the pump because it can get loud if you don't.  you could also make it extendable by cutting out the top and bottom so you can stack them into one continuous cooler.

Hello people.

I have some good news and bad news about this project.

I'll start with the good news I have the CAD pic and part files (for inventor)

Bad news due to the lack of money and time we wont be able to make a full size prototype, or even a more detailed CAD design, so we made it as basic as possible and keeping the idea there.

more good news we will be able to print out our prototype, yes print out the prototype, my class has a 3D printer, but it will be a lot smaller then we wanted.
