ok

i need advice well not advice just a pick of software im going to a computer fair Sunday and want to pick a good high end 3d designer software i know the chap so im getting it for 50 pound ever one i pick ok


autocad
3d max
softimage
 there's other but these are the ones i know about from older times i want to know whats the best (updated version ) that i can make new designs of stuff controllers console mods ect.?

i know some of my friends at uni who are on a caracter modeling cours use 3dsmax and thats the preffered software of the school for using the 3d printer

It depends. Softimage and Max are designed for animation and middling for movies and games, whereas autodesk is for cad and engineering applications.

sorry to go off topic abit but if your doing art/design you should give ubuntu studio a go just burn to a disk or to a usb stick and away you go lol....i used ubutnu studio for my hnc/d graphic design and art and for my tattoo designs.......plus my freind who works for rock star north uses it for home use for back grounds for games

i have a copy of autocad 2009 and 2011 for CNC milling and 3d modeling.

i draw mostly 2d stuff with it.... you can do like 10x more than that though.

just need a good app to make 3D designs of my stuff to see if it looks ok before making the mods
I've use all them but imagesoft was abit on the hard side
max was good and very simple
cad I've not used fully

then dont use autocad as your 3d modeling app its not smooth, its bulky to use.

use 3ds max if you feel good about it so you wont waste time relearning

I have got a friend who is really good with blender, if you want to go open-source then that is the way to go.

3DS Max is good for individual editing,
Maya is great for importing meshes and animating.

Get Maya and 3DS Max

If you want something easier as in software with better UI I recommend
Cinema 4D

its ok with learning harder stuff takes some time but still get what to do

i know max did export to swf on old ones but not sure about the new ones

i had 3d max mite just download maya before buying it

I enjoyed 3dsmax, but you will need maya if your animating,
cinama4d is ok, but only good for graphics, like making a youtube backround and combining it with photoshop

i allways buy what i like but still gota download them first

ill download it then try if i like ill see what my mate can do all its is i want to do is make models of mods i want so instead of just going out and make it i want to see if it will look good and were and what mod to do
