Sony Rebuilding Playstation Network After Attack (anon?)
« on: April 26, 2011, 01:00:50 PM »

After being down for almost a week, Sony has admitted that they are currently rebuilding PSN.
Yes, from scratch. No word on when it will be back up, but not for a while, hence the ‘from scratch’ thing…
Personally, i am impressed by the scale of this and the relative havoc it has caused.
Anonymous has not yet taken responsibility for this, but it seems likely following the video sent to Sony.

Valued PlayStation Network/Qriocity Customer:
We have discovered that between April 17 and April 19, 2011, certain PlayStation Network and Qriocity service user account information was compromised in connection with an illegal and unauthorized intrusion into our network.

there's no way that those n00bs that sit in their mother's basement 24/7 compromised sony's prized network. i just won't believe it.

They did a damn good job. I feel bad for the people who had their personal info compromised. Plus whats there to be    surprised about. They were the dumb asses who used a static master key on their console which led to all of this.

@whitetop up! dont lissten.

but the word on the street(IRC) is that it was not annon, it was just one independent hacker. it was actualy a hacker that was experimenting with the Rebug firmware. He made a discovery in the dev network by creating a reconnaissance virus. He was able to retrieve peoples account information( even credit cards). he did not do this with a black hat, so he have his findings to sony which then panicked and pulled the cord. lol i guess the seciruty flaw was just too huge that they had to shut down the network entirely. but whats fishy is that sony took about 5 days to mention this to the people. and there are rumors speculating that we willl have to "pay for a more secure network".

thats whats bin going arround. :)

This is so amusing. I can't wait for the rumors to die. Anon couldn't and didn't do this. As mentioned before they are not... Just they aren't. XD

There is always more to the story, but please stop feeding the anon rumors. It's so sad. Just.. Sad.

Oh and to all the users that say things like "buy a 360" and all the happy fan boy comments - 2007, XBL went black for 11 days. All companies have ups and downs. Keep that in mind.

My personal theory is the security between the PSN & Steam for the release of Portal 2. It makes for a convenient opening in security.

I can't wait for all the rumors of annon to die. Hi,. In sonys website they said that they will disable auto loggin on ps3 to prevent DoS attacks. I guess that sony might be serius about this rebuild lol.  Hopefully they can optimize p2p play thus inproving online preformance :)

wait wait wait... with nothing confirmed you can's say that it isn't annon anymore than i could say it is! just because they are known for DoS hacks doesn't mean they can't do some real attacks! I also don't think Annon is to blame but no one can really say one way or another as no one has/will take Responsibility for this

If it was anon, wouldn't they have claimed by now? They were posting videos of the dos attack within minutes. This is all I'll say on anon thing. I'm proud to say I'm a sony guy. I will be the first to admit , their network is crap. Great system w crappy p2p networking. They were in dire need of an overhaul. I'm glad it happened and I hope SONY has learned some valuable lessons. And if they fail to report a security breech like this one again, I hope they get sued, again.

im not sure but annon said themselves that they did not hack it. and plus a independent dev also posten in tweeter that he was responsible. With everything that sony has said,  that theory sound more like fact.

o.o well personally i dont believe it was anon, they usually put the word of their attacks out b4 they do them... and usually they are to busy pulling lame pranks like prank calling a radio show that no one listens to. Also, i dont think anons would steal personal info like that... if an anon hacker had those type hacking abilities i would assume they would have done more than just an info stealing virus... its to small time for them, they like flashiness, which is why they DOS attack websites and make videos telling what they are gonna do, its just their dumbass way of doin things, kinda like with Habbo, they got like 15k anons and blocked the pool in the game claiming it had aids.... anyways, all i'm sayin is this is 2 clean cut to be an anon attack. Personally i dont think the actual person who did this will take credit for this... he just stole millions of credit card numbers... my guess is he is a credit card hacker, and he hit the jackpot. Btw, if u aren't aware, credit card hackers have several central websites they trade credit card numbers on, they dont sell 1 or 2 at a time... they sell tens of thousands, but the reason they aren't detected is cuz to get to the website u have to hack it(idk what it is, i just watched a documentary on it and they never share that info), they also encrypt the file the numbers are stored in and usually they will turn the decrypter into a photo and store it on a photo website, so my guess is we will never kno who did this, but this is just my personal opinion, u guys are entitled to ur own theories as well.

xD i feel kinda weird now, my first post on this forum is long as hell xD

Oh, and i used 2 be an anon, not an anon hacker though, i was a troll/flamer/pervert, i've seen horrible things created by anons... really horrible things... that will haunt u for the rest of your LIFE! god i cant get some images out of my head! xD i think i'm just babbling now, oh, and i luv this website and look forward to making friends on here :D
