Xbox 360 modding, precautions?? HELP
« on: June 17, 2011, 10:59:59 AM »
Hi all

ok so ife desided to mod my xbox 360 too prevent the dreaded "RED RINGS OF DEATH"
I'fe search around, looked through some forums.. So this is my questions

soo all i want to know is what is the dangers and precautions to watch out for. And what not to do :dntknw:...I just wanna know if thers stuff i shouldn't do quik so i dnt do it lol

and where would the best place be to place extra cooling fans. (i'm thinking a 60x60mm on the small heatsink next to the faceplate, and one 40x40 near the wind tunnel, next to the heatsink)
and which way around i shouldplace them, blowing or sucking?

I have already cut out a window design on the xbox and a hole over the small heatsink next to the faceplate..

any help is appreciated

i think u gotta have the fan sucking air from the outside and pushing it into the xbox. otherwise it would be working against the stock fan at the back. correct me if im wrong lol.
i doing my xbox aswel :D traded it for a packet of custard cream biscuits... iam thinking all black, window on the side with a hand painted cookie monster in the corner, blue rrod, and a dvd drive mod with a cookie on it.

Luigus , The best thing first is to make sure you have everything you need before starting the mod, second I would say make sure you clean the thermal paste off really good and re- apply the artic- silver 5 paste. I agree also that you want the cooler air brought in to the xbox and exit out the factory fans. cooler the xbox less problems later on. try not to bend the mobo around alot either when re -assembling the xbox 360.

I would draw the power , from the bottom side of the mother board where the main power comes in , less chance of shorting something out also. USE resistor calcutors for the leds also so you dont blow the leds, you could use a pot resistor on the extra fan to controll the speed of the fan also incase its too noisy,

Use .093 thickness plexiglass for the windows if any.

Hyper999 had a great idea using colored plexiglass for more detail of the xbox 360 :)

Here is where everyone has posted there xbox 360 maybe even get some ideas from what Acidmod members have done in the past. to get more ideas and whats out there maybe to change it up a little bit for your own ideas :)

You can get the artic silver off of ebay , just google it , should come up with out a problem, same as for the plexiglass unless you have a home depot maybe even a glass shop or plastic shop should have it.

as for the resistor, you might have to play around with it, it might be good enough, i dont think it will hurt anything if you use it on the fan. as for the leds you have to use the right ones to keep them from burning out.

FOOKz or Hyper could tell you more about resistors

EDIT: Your Welcome Not a problem to help out fellow modders :)

as for the resistor, I would just buy one fixed value resistor for each LED at the same time as you buy your LEDs, to work out what value to get use a resistor calculator (google it)

that diagram is fine and the LEDs should be fine as long as they are definitely made to run of 12v

I don't think it really matters about the resistance as long as it can handle the current.
